Michigan vs. Michigan State Open Thread

Doesn't get any better than this: Undefeated Meeechigan vs. the 4-1 Jolly Green Giants from East Lansing.  We're going to need a "super" performance from Denard in order to have a shot in front of such a hostile crowd.  Let's just hope all that green isn't Kryptonite!

Leave us your thoughts on M/MSU and all the action on Saturday.

GO BLUE!

I'm warming up the liver although it has led me to the belief that I will have to get up and make a beer run tomorrow morning. GO BLUE!!! BEAT STATE!!!!

I like the commitment, M561!

Sparty is going down.....at least to Jackson or so...

Ah as you post mere hours before me and I realize you were all still awake. Alas I am now woken up and heading to tackle another derelict day of work. I should hopefully get home right before kickoff otherwise the DVR will be in effect. We all know what happens when I'm away from the TV during a game though so for Michigan's sake I hope I'm home for kickoff.

3 hours of sleep thanks to a screaming 3 year old all night.
Go Blue beat yadda yadda yadda where's my coffee?

Worked all night and home getting the garage ready for the tailgate/garage party. We have our lucky game day goat dressed in Michigan colors and a pile of hay in front of him to keep his mind clear for the task at hand. Go Blue, beat Sparty!!

GO BLUE!!!! Those who stay will be champions, our team is A team and they most certainly are playing this game for our seniors, no doubt that we can do this. Of all the games this year that I REALLY want to win....it is this one. HAIL to the Victors!

Hey Yost, since more than half of your readers that voted like "in the Big House" I think you should post that video for every home game open thread. (obviously today isn't a home game)...Just for future thought.....cause we ain't got no doubt, it is time for lil bro to give the ball back.......wooooolllllvvverrriinnnnesssss! Hail Hail! (ok, so that didn't rhyme, but you get the point!) :)

Drove to Michigan to see the game with my 85 year old dad! We have a long history of cheering for Big Blue! Everyone have a great day. GO BLUE!

Yost said...

I'm pumped! Not as pumped as a dude with a 12 gauge, of course. But pumped none-the-less.

Go Blue!

Bigasshammm said...

Who shit on ALL the players?

Merrick 561 said...

Love the fake FG call there. And MSU can't tackle Denard!!

wingedhelmet said...

Impressive start. Let's go D

Rigby said...

Uniforms on both sides look bad.

Bigasshammm said...

I'm sorry but woolfolk needs to graduate. He's shown me nothing.

Bigasshammm said...

Their offensive line is abusing us. And their offensive line blows. WTF?

Rigby said...

Terrible run defense. No way our D-line should be handled this well.

Yost said...

Big, sadly I agree that TW isn't playing well.

Rigby said...

We can't keep giving up easy points. That's twice that Devin missed wide open guys.

wingedhelmet said...

Time for a turnover. Let's go D!

Rigby said...

unbelievable! Awful, awful passing game today. Overthrown balls and missed open receivers everywhere.

Bigasshammm said...

Dominating this game just can't get any points. At lest this looks like a football game.

Bigasshammm said...

We have no o-line

Rigby said...

No O-line and no accuracy.

Bigasshammm said...

Y is every pass a play action? It takes too much time. JC

Yost said...

O-line is getting DESTROYED today. Sad.

Rigby said...

Note to defense: this is tackle football, not touch.

bigGexpress said...

Everybody calm down. Down 14 going into the 4th. We've got 'em right where we want 'em.

kristy said...

C'mon Blue!!! We have got to get it together!!! Fumble-rooskie!!! Now let's do something with it!! Or not...maybe the stripes are hurting OUR guys' eyes!!

kristy said...

This looks like a different team from last week...

Rigby said...

Gotta put points on the board here.

Rigby said...

Called it, baby!

Merrick 561 said...

Here comes the 4th Quarter Wolverines. They were resting up in the locker room.

Rigby said...

Take the easy first down, guys! MSU is blitzing all day. Terrible 4th & 1 call.

Bigasshammm said...

CBG says "worst 4th down call. Ever." I'm surprised were still in this. Definitely being outcoached.

Bigasshammm said...

Game over

kristy said...

THis is nuts!Where are the wolverines? Lots of ugliness on the field too...both teams, but mostly State. Late hits, blatent poor sportsmanship, taunting after the INT? They may win, but not in a respectable way. No one likes a thug. They have just shut us down on O and D. WOW>>>

bigGexpress said...

Can't blame the defense.

kristy said...

should've left the original uniforms on...back to the drawing board...

Rigby said...

Out-coached, out-prepared, out-played. Maybe someone forgot to hit "START" on Hoke's MSU countdown clock.

Jim said...

I don't understand what just happened. Who was that team on offense? Why so few Denard runs? Why so much Gardener? Never seemed to get into any kind of rhythm. Don't get it.

Don't know that I really expected to win the game...our ranking was a bit of a mirage (IMHO)...but it's worse when they play so dirty/cheaply and it doesn't cost them.

Jim said...

P.S. I'm so tired of the 4-straight story line. The little brother comment was completely incidental to the fact that we changed coaches and systems and headed into the worst 3-4 years in our history. Breaking undefeated streaks each year also completely overblown. So tedious.

Rigby said...

Agreed, Jim. It's fine to change it up with Gardner now and then, but prepare the kid. Not knowing where the LOS is on an open touchdown?? He's not a true freshman, and he should know better. And why all the Denard throws? Poor passing this year + HUGE wind = LET YOUR QB DO WHAT HE'S GOOD AT.

wingedhelmet said...

For once I got nothing. Just nothing, except I hate Damntonio and his cheap, dirty thug players.

I am confident this heartbreaker doesn't foretell the late season collapse such as those brought to us by RR.

IT'S Great to be a Michigan Wolverine!

surrounded in columbus said...

Not to sound snarky, but what did people expect? that this team, picked to go 6-6 or 7-5 was gonna go 12-0 & play Wisconsin for the championship? and then what?

i "like" Hoke. he's a "good" coach. but aside from "getting it", he's not exactly Bill Parcells. he's going to be good, but if we had wanted "great"? we should have hired Les Myles. we didn't. we didn't want all the baggage that comes w/ becoming "great"- the sniff of scandal, the grey shirts, & all the rest (you know, all the “stuff“ tsio is cleaning up right now). we wanted "good". we got "good".

and "good" teams win 8 to 10 games, and plays in a nice bowl. that was Lloyd the last decade. that's Hoke.

and that's Michigan.

so, we're still gonna win 8-10 games this season, and play in a nice bowl.

but if you thought we were headed somewhere else? sorry. this is Michigan.

we don't do that here.

Caring Hands Glass Art, Fine Jewelry and Gemstones said...

The press even knows how dirty Sparty played. We were out coached and out played, not denying that, however our kids did a great job of not responding to their bully tactics. Seriously......#2 grabs Denard's facemask WHILE he is on the ground and 3 of his sparty teammates already are on top of him and basically tries to rip his head off, THEN he flat out punches one of our players in the face after a play and he is STILL in the game? Taunting Denard after the TD from the interception doesn't get called? DIRTY.....but what do you expect from a team coached by Dantonio. I wanted this win for the seniors.

Everyone can think what they like, but the bottom line for me is that these are kids in a program to learn how to be a better person and live the kind of life you can be proud of. We teach our kids responsibility, leadership and consequences. Stonum....1 DUI.....out for the season, that is what college football really is about. These teams that pull this type of shit, teach their kids to be bullies, allow 3 DUI's and suspend them only for the off season (Notre Dame) to me is just like parents allowing their kids to act poorly and not address it.

Yes, I am dissappointed that we lost, but I am very proud of all of the young men who are called Michigan football. Hail!

ps....I loved the under armor today.......where can I get mine?

Ramona said...

I am proud of our team. Yes, this was a major test and we didn't meet the challenge but I would rather lose with honor, and learn from the mistakes, than win with the disgusting penalties that MSU apparently thinks is just part of the game. Their coach may even be more of an unethical asshole than Tressel although I didn't think that was possible...

I'm gonna need at least 5 days of healing.

Jim said...

Yeah, SIC, I'm going to agree and disagree. I also figured we'd be lucky to get out of there with a win, but I don't think we know what Hoke will be yet. I know we were over-ranked at 11, but I think we had a better game in us.

Merrick 561 said...

My thoughts.. (after running out of beer.. I also had a Flyers game to watch....fyi)

1) We were definitely over-ranked at #11.
2) Today we played like that stuff monkeys throw at each other in the cages at the zoo
3) ESPN needs to fire whomever was commenting (I'm drunk I forgot) since their incredibly biased
4) In HOKE we trust
5) I'd rather go 0-12 then play as dirty as Sparty did today. Because at least I'd still have my integrity if nothing else.

Okay.. time to recover the liver.. oh wait I have to watch the Eagles tomorrow... fuck me.. well after that rest up the liver, enjoy the bye week.. and BEAT PURDUE FOR HOMECOMING!!! GO BLUE!!

phil said...

Well, sadly, there is disappointment. But to log on here for some comfort and find NO healing picture is TOTALLY BOGUS. Sure he does this for free, sure he has a life, sure he's supposedly a nice guy, sure he's the greatest blogger in the universe, but I want Yost to be thrown on a couch and set on fire. No, never mind, that's over the top and I really can't support that.......or can I?

Caring Hands Glass Art, Fine Jewelry and Gemstones said...

Merrick, nice list....I agree! The trouble with ESPN announcers is that they all are biased! Most the time I want to turn the volume down on the TV and put the radio on. HOWEVER, yesterday, they were commenting on the dirty play that sparty was getting away with, they were shocked. Yes they got penalties on some of them, but they remained in the game! That TD from Denard's inerception should have been called no good because of the taunting.
Everyone knew we were overranked, even hoke and the entire team. I still think they are #1 in my book for their poise and composure in the situation that they were in. I can't imagine what Sparty must have been saying to them on the field.......and I can't get the image of cousins skipping around the sidelines like a fairy because he was so happy that they were going to win again. BLECH!

Anyway......Enjoy the eagles and take care of that liver! GO LIONS! :)

Jim
i don't wanna throw Hoke under the bus. he's going to be "good". good like Bo, Mo, & Lloyd. 8-10 wins every year, a good bowl, and a fair number of conference championships.

but "great"? this is a program that won 10 national championships before 1950. and since 1950? one. when university of chicago dropped big time sports to focus on academics, Michigan stayed in the big 10, but also reassessed the role of sports in the school's culture. as a University, we want a program that is competitive, but we don't want to do anything too inconsistent w/ the school's place as an educational institution; the things necessary to have a "great" football team in the modern era, ala the SEC, Oklahoma, or until this spring, tsio.

so be it. we hired a coach who is going to be good, who is going to win 8-10 games, go to a nice bowl, and win the conference more than just once in a while. but he's never going to be Stoops/Saban/Myles successful. and i'm ok w/ that.

i didn't go to a school like OU (or even tsio) for a reason.

and i didn't go to Michigan for the football.

Ok guys come on now? Would seeing pictures of scantily clad coeds even help right now? Would ANYTHING help after that appalling display of poor sportsmanship yesterday... short of seeing Dantonio fall to a similar fate as Tressel? Usually after a loss I start healing within hours and definitely by the next day, but this time I am angrier today than yesterday... Denard, one of the classiest players around, always extends a hand to help an opposing player get up off the field, and MSU goes all out to try and injure him? As I said to anyone at work who tried to get in my face about this today, we didn't deserve to win, but their victory was nothing to feel proud about.
The only thing I liked about MSU was their jersey style - we really need to lose those pathetic stripes.
