Michigan vs. WMU Open Thread

UPDATE:

Michigan wins, 34-10 after game called with 1:27 left in 3rd Q due to weather.  So nice to not need healing pictures to start off the season!

(pic via MVictor Twitter feed)

It's finally here!  Not only a new season, but a new beginning (at least it sure feels that way).  I was so excited last night, I could barely sleep.

Post your gameday thoughts, opinions and general whatnot here throughout the day.  And be sure to follow us on Twitter as we'll be updating there as well.

Now, as we wait the final few hours for the game to start, enjoy a few pictures of The Big House and new scoreboard courtesy of our pal Mikoyan and his blog, Michigan Exposures.

GO BLUE!

UofM Football!!!! Can you believe it!!!!
Best day ever!!!
GO BLUE!!!

Well our long winningest college football program nightmare is finally over - I can see Rich Rod standing next to "No Defense One" waving dismissively giving the double peace sign - coincidentally indicating the number of quality wins achieved in 3 seasons. Thankfully healing begins in less than 3 hours.

GO BLUE!

Urban Meyer and Pam Ward would make an epically bad commentating pair. He's almost as awful as she is. But neither of them compares to the awfulness of Akron U. If they were any sort of team they would probably be beating Ohio right now. Ohio looks terrible.

wingedhelmet said...

@Bigasshammm - love the Hokeism "Ohio"

GO BLUE!

Yost said...

Andrew,

Now THAT is a great pre-game ritual! Where are you located?

Yost said...

WH,

Yep. The dawn of a new era.

TitleIX said...

I am soooooo ready for football!

wiil be tweeting on TitleIXMZone too

Rigby said...

Let's get a stop here, boys. Start the year off right. Go BLUE!

Rigby said...

This may be nitpicking, but I'm not a fan of Greg Mattison's yellow hat.

TitleIX said...

Maybe the name 'Greg' is the issue?

Bigasshammm said...

God dammit defense still sucks.

wingedhelmet said...

Helluva drive!

TitleIX said...

Way to answer!

TitleIX said...

Anyone else like that Bridgestone commercial?

Bigasshammm said...

I'm going to drink WAY too much this season. It's WMU and already I'm on number 3 since start of game. This offense will work but onl if the defense makes plays.

Bigasshammm said...

I mute all commercials. Although the new allstate one where he's the referee is fantastic.

Bigasshammm said...

Too much makeup on the cheerleaders.

Fuck woolfolks hurt again? JC

wingedhelmet said...

Alright..progress, a short field hold.

Let's GO BLUE!

Bigasshammm said...

Jake Ryan is a Fn stud.

Noticed that in the spring game. Kid can play.

GO BLUE!!!
I feel good
Why is James Craig a kook

Bigasshammm said...

Andrew:: It runs in the family...

Yost said...

Okay, well, 20-10 Michigan at the half. Basically, same O, D and kicking game as last year thus far.

Let's see what the 2nd half brings.

wingedhelmet said...

@Yost

I think the future is bright. Hopefully we will see some positive adjustment to the D in the 2nd half.

TitleIX said...

I am ok with this. Good adjustments, playing hard. Nice start.

Rigby said...

DANG! Delaying the game for weather. I want people to be safe, but dang it!

Yost said...

WH,

Don't get me wrong, I do, too. But, truth be told, there had been so much sunshine in the off season, I'd be lying if the defense the first couple series wasn't a cold splash in the face.

Rigby said...

What a shot by Kovacs! I'll have more of that, please.

Bigasshammm said...

Kovacs has definitely earned his spot amongst the team.

Mikoyan said...

Craig James killed five hookers at SMU

Bigasshammm said...

I'd like to thank ABC/ESPN for their shit awful video coverage of today's game.

Bigasshammm said...

OMG the weather I don't have enough beer to keep drinking.

Rigby said...

BAH...I know. The TV coverage and audio is terrible. They need to get their act together.

Rigby said...

Anyone know what happens if they can't resume?

Yost said...

I do now, Rigby: Meeechigan wins!

Bigasshammm said...

So long heisman. But! Notre dame being blanked.

Mikoyan said...

That was cool that they won and got (at least) two defensive scores.
Craig James still killed 5 hookers at SMU.
The stupid storm decided to head east and inflict its will on Rynearson, so I'm sitting home at the moment waiting it out. But it is cool to have a press pass.....

Go Blue!
Go Green (but not *that* green)!

Rigby said...

Bummer about the early end, but I can't complain with a win.

phil said...

Bring on ND. After 3 quarters ND is losing. Brian Kelly was supposed to coach this game but he decided to spend all his time getting in the face of his players and yelling at them. WTF?

Andrew said...

UofM Win awesome...I thought they looked very good (1 penalty & no fumbles...awesome). D actual gettting after it...getting the ball. Nice blitzes...
The world is such a better place after a WIN!!!
Go BLUE!!!!

Ramona said...

No shit, they put the RADAR up on the scoreboard?? That's possible?? It's really been THAT long since I attended a home game?? Oh yeah I've worked on Saturdays for years. Whatever, we start out the season with a win, Brady knows what to work on, and GO BLUE!!

bigGexpress said...

This could be a rough year at times(and I hope I'm just saying this because of what I've become accustomed to the last three years), but despite of missing some coverages the defense actually attacked and TACKLED. I felt like I was watching Michigan today. I know there will be growing pains, but man I feel good about this team and these coaches. It seems like the pride is back. Am I the only one or do any of you agree?

Mikoyan said...

I only listened to some of the game on the radio but it sounded alot better.

first, it seemed that they tried to play very vanilla (especially on D), and only broke out the new packages (like the heavy I or the blitzes on D) as they had to do so.

second, the scoreboard was a big disappointment. yeah, it's as big as advertised, but they didn't track the stats, and they didn't seem to know what to do some of the graphics.

finally, i can i have never been so hot & so cold in 3 hours time in my life.

Rigby said...

SiC, that's too bad about the scoreboard. I hope they sort it out and use it to full potential.

Mikoyan said...

I was listening to the game on the radio on my way home from my mom's. According to Mr. Brandstetter, they are still working out the kinks on the board. I suspect the stats was one of those kinks.

The secondary looked BAD.....I was getting sick to my stomach.....then the adjustments came and WHAM! I don't think that Carder wanted to come back out! I think the Gazette reporter in Kalamazoo may realize that he was incorrect when he said that Carder was the best QB in the state of Michigan. Don't get me wrong, he looked good, until Kovacs leveled him a few times and our D kept pushing! Loved the D running back both recoveries for TD's! I think you are right when you said they came out vanilla then amped it up.

Oh and I loved Mattison's hat....I want one!

Mik....I haven't checked yet, but I think for the first time ever (in my recollection) that EMU was favored by like 40 points.....I wonder if they gave them points for having Mike Hart on the coaching staff now....:)

Wow! It is just a pre-season game.
TOSU played a high school team also and won,big deal. You all should calm down and wait untill real season starts. U of M always did good against these teams. So instead of over blown celebrations for a team you should have beat relax and see how you do against real compititon. All the blogs on TOSU is the same and I say the same to those fans also.

surrounded in columbus said...

yeah, the scoreboard operation reminded me of my teenager when he gets a new video game- it takes a few tries to figure out what all the buttons do.

the weather was an amazing change- it was mid 90's at kick off- stifling hot. then the rain moved in & it was close to 68 (& i was soaked) by the time the game ended. damn near froze.

during the delay, i went to buy a cup of coffe- they didn't have any! it was so hot beforehand, they didn't bother making coffee for the stands.

could have gone worse- we could have played like ND!

Imagine that, people on a Michigan blog celebrating the victory of their team. Go figure. What other pearls of wisdom will come out of your mouth:
1. Water is wet
2. The sky is blue (although it looks a little gray right now)

Ramona said...

And so, Hs8... help me out a little... you are here on this blog, because.......?

hs8bern said...

Iam on this blog, cause I find it fun and smart.Iam just saying relax it was not that big of a victory!Any big 10 school could have won. It is you can't judge this team for a few weeks, just like the pre season polls(waste of time) And I will post once my Buckeyes get slapped around by ncaa, that will be lots of fun. But I will be here for the abuse:)

surrounded in columbus said...

thank gawd we now have someone to keep us grounded.

because that's what tosu fans are known for- keeping level headed & providing unbiased perspective to keep everything in context.

glad i know where to find that now.

BTW- if you really wanna help out w/ someone's perspective? stop by bucknuts, et al. it was, after all, just Akron.

hs8bern said...

I have found out they are all insane down there! Thats why I live up here in Michigain:) It is just force of habbit and since it was a father/son bonding i became a Buckeye fan(child abuse?)But I get frighten by the behavior down in c-bus those folks are just nuts!(no pun intended) It does disgust me and sadden my heart to hear and see the idiots that pass themseleves off as fans,I always try to keep a level head about things like football games and teams. And trust me I did wish at the time you guys did get pryor, never cared for him! As for tressel,he caused his own downfall and TOSU should get punished! As for the u of m I do like Denard and wish him nothing but good luck for his season and life, cause he seems like the real deal and I do respect him>

Ramona said...

And really, your point is well taken that these opponents were nothing to get too excited about. But we can't help getting excited.
That just isn't going to change!
;)
