"Til death do us part" only applies to spouse, not school, for OSU fans

Wow.

That was all I could say when our Ohio-trapped friend, Surrounded in Columbus, sent us the picture below from the the official Ohio State University .edu website which had it up under the title "Now Dad is the permanent 'I'."

Look, if you've ever been to Columbus, you know Tosu* fans are a different breed but this...this...

Wow.

As SiC said in his email:

I'm not sure which is scarier - that the family "did" this, that they took pictures, or that Tous posted it on their alumni web site!

Reader CB also sent this pic/story tip to us after he saw it on Lost Lettermen where they summed it up this way:

We’ve never seen anyone look that overjoyed next to an open casket but being the “permanent I” is probably what many Buckeye fans consider eternal happiness.

One final thought...

Is it just me or does the cross on the wall in the background make it look like they're actually spelling out Tosu?

So let's see to sum up:
1. You can take guns to bars.
2. You can have your way with your pet sheep or goat.
3. You can use dead people in imaginative ways....

I think there should be armed guards around Monroe and Blissfield.

Mik -

You forgot #4:

You can squirt your alcohol-laced breast milk at police officers.

It is an every day occurrence in Columbus to have people bring their "dearly departed" to a tattoo parlor to get one last tat. If you don't believe me, just watch what goes in and out of those tattoo parlors and tell me those people aren't dead.

(wv: terfic -when your visit to Columbus isn't quite terrific.)

However, in all seriousness....I want to thank Mr. I for his service to the country (the flag on his coffin)...

Ditto that, Mik.

Whatever makes people happy, at a time of loss like that can't be a bad thing. The karma that comes from mocking it... not so sure.

And you would be the ex of? Buzz Killington?

Ramona said...

Shouldn't basic respect reign over "making people happy", Ex?

Tosu fans wishing Kalis to blow his knees out because he decommits from tosu? And you wanna talk karma?

Look up the word "irony".

Ramona,

Perhaps the deceased, while still living, came up with the idea. Based on the little blurb it was something he clearly did do and enjoy while living.

I joke I lived in exile for eight years in Washington DC, and I attended a funeral of a diehard Redskins fan who was all decked out in Redskins gear, which I thought was a little odd, at first, but the lady loved the redskins and her kids said that was how she wanted to be buried.

Now if he was a Michigan fan, yes that would be abuse. Or perhaps an attempt at a deathbed salvation. :)

SiC,

Our fans aren't the only ones who wish ill on a kid who switches. The name Boren comes to mind. Now in Boren's case his switch was worse, he actually had been at Michigan and he badmouthed the staff. However, I know I saw comments wishing his knee blew out and worse. You are always going to have hateful people who let themselves get a bit too wrapped up that make you and your fan base look foolish. We seem to sometimes excel at that, unfortunately. I'm disappointed Kalis left, but with the uncertainty here, I can't blame the kid. I know you don't, but I love the Central Ohio area. I grew up here, went to and graduated from OSU, met my wife at OSU. But after we got married we moved to DC because we had better job options at the time there. I'm not sure Michigan is the best option for Kalis. I'm not sure Hoke will be able to get Michigan on track, perhaps he would be better off at some place more stable.

I hope Hoke does work out for guys. I have said before I would love to see the rivalry back on equal footing like it was when I was a kid.

Your fans may not be the only ones to wish ill on someone, but they are the only ones stupid enough to wish ill on others & then sanctimoniously condemn others for "tempting karma". You shoild look up "irony", too.

And your "Redskins" funeral? They post pics of the corpse on the web? The Redskins post those pics on their website? Really?

Not really the same thing.

BTW- it's Friday & Jim Tressel is still a liar & a cheat.

Thanks for your comments, Dennis. I should try not to judge. But I'm getting old, AND I'm going to be late for work thanks to this blog..;) PLUS son just came downstairs to announce something similar to Tresslegate is brewing over at the SEC.. can't imagine what that is? Guessing it's Auburn??

Go ahead & judge. No one in Cowtown hesitates to judge everyone & everything. They just don't like being judged themselves.

What, they didn't have the dearly departed raise his arms for the "I"?

If you're gonna do something like this, you gotta go all in.

Last version didn't have quotes show up as expected.

I know what it means and I know our fans are not the only ones that do it. I don't like it when they do and I say so when I see it. The probelm is it is really hard to cure stupid. And as I said, we have more than our share of fans like that which saddens me.

And your "Redskins" funeral? They post pics of the corpse on the web? The Redskins post those pics on their website? Really?

The Redskins organization might if they cared about their fans (rimshot.) I do know someone took pictures, the deceased was a member of the same civic organization I belonged to and they showed pictures at our next meeting. This funeral was almost 15 years ago, so it wasn't quite the same world we live in now. But I will give you that O-H-I-O picture being published on the alumni website is considerably more extreme. Maybe not apples and oranges, more along the lines of dwarf pumpkins and giant pumpkins.

BTW- it's Friday & Jim Tressel is still a liar & a cheat.

No argument here.

Ramona,

I see your point and I wouldn't want it done with my body or my wife's or my mother's. Dad died many years ago, he actually might have been one to have it done, but it wasn't the craze it is now.
