It's no secret that I'm not exactly in love with the throwback jerseys unveiled last week.
As has already been discussed here and elsewhere, they're not throwbacks to anything Michigan has worn in the past, try as some might to sell them as such (key word: sell).
Yet I couldn't help thinking I'd seen them before, or at least their forefathers. Just not on a football field. But where?
Then I was clicking through the channels over the weekend and stumbled upon an HBO special on the tennis rivalry between Bjorn Borg and John McEnroe.
And there it was.
Judging by the pictures below, apparently these jerseys are throwbacks to wood racket tennis circa 1980.

The jerseys stripes are horizontal. McEnroe's are clearly vertical. Geesh! What is going on with the research around here. Scandal overload I guess.
Tough crowd, bG. Not meant to be literal.
My post was also meant to be tongue in cheek. Sometimes doesn't translate in writing.
I hate the spiderman pattern on the block M. What we need is throwback pricing.
Yeah these look like terrible soccer jerseys. I'll never wear one.
LOL, bG. Yeah, that happens a lot. I seem to get myself in a lot of trouble sometimes with emails whose tone doesn't translate on a computer screen.
PS I like the "throwback pricing" idea, GBB.
Eh, I think the ones the players have look great. The problem with thses is how long the sleeves are. But, numbers on the helmets? I'm in.
If the sleeves were shorter, like when they are on the player, I might buy one. As is, no way.
I am in Brazil for work and this morning on ESPN Brazil there was a tennis story featuring Byorn Borg and it showed a match with him versus McEnroe wearing this blue striped shirt. LOL
