RIP Vada Murray

Sad news to report:

Former Michigan free safety Vada Murray passed away Wednesday after a long battle with cancer.  He was 43 years old.

Murray played for the Wolverines from 1988-1990 and then became an Ann Arbor police officer.  He is survived by his wife and three children.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family.

UPDATE:  Great article on Vada by Michael Rosenberg in the Freep.

I've been reading your posts and Brian's on this over the years of my lurking. My thoughts and prayers go out to his family.

My father died after being sick for a very long time and suffering quite a bit for the last few years. I was 19 and I was still too young. And yet, the pain was so bad, I felt relief for him. Unless you have been there it is hard to explain. Not sure how recent that photo is, but his children were much too young as well.

On the plus side, he did have time with them and time to prepare. Given his line of work he could have been taken from them in a much more abrupt manner. At least my father and I were able to say our goodbyes.

I always worried about that in the back of my head so ever since we brought our son home I have written him letters for him to read when he is older. Sometimes about serious stuff, sometimes just current events, or sometimes about something funny he says. For example the other day he was upset that I gave his older cousin an old lawn dart we found while cleaning out my mother's house. We were in the car with my wife and he groused, "Why can't I get a lawn tart?" His mother told him a lot of men would like a lawn tart at which point she and I busted out laughing. He got mad because he thought we were laughing at him for not getting his own lawn dart.

Saw that on my news feed on Facebook last night and was crushed. Been following the story here and mgo for a long time and it just is a kick in the nuts when this happens. Hopefully he went peacefully and his family will be able to move on with their lives. They have the entire M community to hold them up and be strong.

I'm sorry to hear about his passing but he is in a better place now.

That just sucks. May God Bless the Murrays, and may every man receive a lawn tart.

I remember Officer Murray from my days at the 15th, even more than I remember the football player. Always gracious, professional, fair and kind. So sorry to hear this news. May his wife and children find comfort in his love and his legacy.
