Ouch

Spartan fans celebrate in the Big House after another victory over the Wolverines today...

OWNAGE

We can talk about "giving it away" or "blowing it" or a hundred other excuses but they're all just that - excuses. We gave up 500+ yards (again), our kicking game made mistakes (again) and we found out Denard is human (okay, that's a new one).  Fact is, as hard as it is to swallow, we lost to the better all-around team.

Getting very stale losing to anybody with a pulse and having to settle for thrilling victories over UMass and shitty ND teams in September.

Okay, I have to go back to avoiding my phone and email.

(Thanks to my Spartan friend B. - yeah, I have one - for sending this...I think.)

Truth hurts. We did not execute today--- unless killing ones' self with mistakes counts. Bottom line? We are 5-1 and one or two wins away from a bowl bid. Do not despair. One at a time.

Despite giving up 34 points, I don't think the defense looked that bad. They made a few key stops at key points in the game. And Denard doesn't give up those two interceptions in or near the endzone and it's a different game.

But the worst part about the game was hearing those fuckers do the "Go Green Go White" thing. I tried to yell Go Blue but noone would help.....

The irony of the pole reversals of our O and D is almost too painful to consider - especially as it came immediately in the game with the opportunity to dominate, rather than late in the game to squeak another one out.

Robinson to Roundtree has been our bread and butter; our peanut butter and jelly; our biscuits and gravy; (can you tell it's breakfast time as I write this?)

And yet the kids just couldn't do to Sparty what they can literally do in their sleep. That's why Robinson smiles when he throws the pick in the endzone, and they both smile when Roundtree drops the TD pass - because to them, they're like - "It's OK, we'll just do it on the next drive." They just have that confidence because they know they are fully capable at any given time. Hope they learned that there are only so many opportunities in 60 minutes; and probably fewer ones against Sparty and tOSU.

After we botched the second open chance in the first quarter for a score, I thought, "those were the two they were going to give you today and you missed them right off the bat. This is going to be a long day, as Sparty will eventually adjust to find a way to contain you; if they get up by one score we will chase them all day long." Ouch.

I'll be in the stands for Iowa next weekend - cheering the team on. I know these kids will re-focus and come out with guns blazing. I know that Iowa will not be able to stop their first few series successfully. I just pray that we can capitalize and get up a few scores right away -- and that yesterday was just some sort of extended gift to Dantonio for the balls it took to call the fake FG to beat ND, that damn near killed him.

--- Great Pics Mik!!

Denard played like a QB in his 6th start ever. And the red zone offensive play calling was utterly terrible. They completely went away from what got them to the red zone and instead left Robinson back there to chuck it on third downs after wasting two downs running the rb right up the middle. The defense is biblically bad and it has no sign of getting any better in the next 2 years. Ultimately that will be RRs downfall. He's a hell of an offensive coordinator but I'm starting to wonder about his head coaching abilities. Defense wins championships. Not the other way around.

I don't think the "little brother" sibling analogy works anymore. MSU fan's are going to have to start asking Michigan, "Who's your Daddy?"

Plain and simple.... They are better than us in football right now. Until we get some linebackers and defensive backs that can play, it is going to be that way.

I'm going to have to agree with Mik here. The defense did show signs of improvement and that they can indeed stop you at points. D-Rob (patent pending on that nickname) looked like a regular QB for once, but that was bound to happen at some point. Next week is another week and another game. GO BLUE!!!!!

I think that one problem is that after playing a bunch of crappy defenses, Denard thought he could just continue do what he does and things will turn out okay. The problem is that it engenders a degree of recklessness. Now this is, of course, complete speculation, but it did look to me like the players were a little nervous and jumpy in the beginning of the game and that Denard wasn't used to playing against better defense. I wonder if this is a possible pitfall of playing back-to-back lousy defenses. Whatever the case, the universe has a sick sense of humor. This is not a feel-good story at all; the MSU students who got attacked probably agree.

What MSU students got attacked? Do you have a link for that, FB?

I was referring to the incident last year when a group of MSU football players, including Glenn Winston, put on black ski masks and attacked a group of students at a dorm in MSU. I hope that no MSU students were attacked yesterday.

Well my wife pointed out to me that my fucking flag and flagpole was stolen sometime today/last night. Really Fn pissed off right now. I hate living in this GD state. I will be purchasing a few "worst state ever" shirts here very shortly.

As always, fantastic pix, Mikoyan.

I'm debating if I want to go to one more game this year or not. Looks like Iowa is sold out, single tickets for Illinois and Wisconsin available.

GoBlueBob said...

Mik... If you are interested in tickets for Iowa I can check with my tailgate group. I got tickets for Hammmm this way and him and his wife are joining us at our tailgate. Post a reply and I can check it out for you if you want.

Mikoyan said...

Yes I would be interested in a ticket for the game if you can get one. If not, I'm good with that too.
