Post-Game Homecoming Healing

Iowa wins 38-28. Molk and Denard both get hurt.
At least we won't lose next week.

My goodness, Ohio State's kickoff team is as bad as our defense...

Badgers lead 14-0.

The only positive thing I can say is that at least the kids didn't quit.
The coaches clearly didn't even start......time for another reset...

If I am Dave Brandon, I am asking myself some tough questions right now....

If he fires Greg Robinson then that would be 2 coordinators in 3 years. It's like being halfway across the lake right now....painful

Nice suit DesmondD

Very tough, Andy. Very tough. Where is the progress and improvement? We heard that last season and again this season - the D is young. Okay. But what about the O? And even if the D is young, shouldn't we be seeing improvement each week?

I watched with a buddy who played at Michigan pre-RR. When your team is simply standing around during a blocked FG as Iowa advances it is coaching. Period. You play until the whistle. Period.

While I was away, I used to shake my head at all the "anti-RR" or "pro-RR" groups" when talking about Michigan's progress. It almost became like Republican or Democrat in that folks of good conscience couldn't simply disagree. But at what point must we start to look at results on the field? At what point does getting smoked - even if it "ends up close on the scoreboard" - start to be something the head coach must be accountable for, no excuses.

Yes, I'm beyond frustrated.

The reality is not one person with any football sense expected us to win this game. It wasn't that we lost. It was HOW we lost that makes me sick.

We still have a shot at 6 (maybe 7) wins? Not without a defense that can make an open field tackle when it counts.

Agree with both of you. A ton of 'what if's' for me today. Which then makes me wonder if the mistakes get cleaned up then we could win a few more, get to a bowl game show some promise etc.....Then what? Another wait one more year? What if we beat tUOS? Does that save RR? This is just maddening for me.

Yost said...

And that, to me is a problem - 3 years in, "not one person with any football sense" expected Michigan to win its homecoming game against a solid-but-not-great Iowa team.

Still in the car on the way home. Another pathetic effort. Thanks to Bob again for the awesome tailgate. See u again in December. I think with a new coach next year well see Tate at QB and Denard where he belongs. Somewhere else.

But so we win one more, maybe two vs. Purdue and, say, Illinois - Because we're not going to beat Wisco or OSU and we're not going to win all three of the others - does that show progress? Losing to EVERY TEAM with a winning record? Barely beating an IU team that got smoked by OSU and BARELY beat Ark STATE at home today?

As some point, RR has to stop making the veiled references to "bare cupboards" and injuries - ie, blaming somebody else - and man up and accept responsibility. It's his team.

And as his team, we need to see improvement. B/c I see a team getting worse.

Damn, I'm made...almost as mad as South Car. fans are right now after Steve Spurrier completely shit the bed at the end of the game. WOW!

And thank you Badgers

Who's she? I think I'm gonna need more healing.

if we don't win 2 or 3 of the next 3 games, i'll be glad to jump on the "regime change" band wagon. but if we do win 2 or 3 of the next games (and we can win all 3 of them), i think we should be very careful about judging 7-5/8-4 as "not good enough" for Michigan.

in 2007, we got humiliated by App St & Oregon, won the next 8, then lost to Wisconsin & tosu to finish regular season 8-4.

we are now 5-2, w/ a bye & 3 pretty bad teams coming up next on the schedule. if we win 2/3, we'll be 7-3/8-2 heading into Wisconsin & tosu.

i think we need to be sure to compare "where we are today" w/ the right "where we were". Lloyd was 1-6 against tosu this last decade before R2 left WVU. our "best" seasons were 2003, when we won the conference & beat tosu, but got pasted by USC for our 3rd loss. and 2006, when we went 11-2 and lost to tosu & got pantsed by USC.

THOSE were the best two seasons of the decade. Lloyd won a total of 2 bowls during this stretch (oddly, both over UF- go figure). made it thru 1 September w/ out a loss. lost the first road game of the season 6 years straight.

anybody else remember the loss to a bad Minnesota on Homecoming in 2005?

Jim Hermmann's "fast first downs & slow safeties" approach to D?

as we sit at 5-2, let's all be real careful to compare this team (and this coaching staff)to what we really were for the decade before we changed coaches, not the mythos of what we thought we were supposed to be.

Update: OSU loss blamed on "New Fight Song Mascot Man". Tressel just announced that after watching the youtube "New Fight Song Mascot Man" after Wednesday's practice, the team has been unable to focus. "We tried everything short of a colonoscopy to get that damn song out of our minds, but alas, it was all for naught. It was like a virus that ripped through our team".

what an odd coincidence? i was stuck going to a "game watching" party in the hood, and i was pretty sure i caught several of my neighbors humming THAT tune during the commercials!

Yost said...

LOL, Phil.

You had to go mention that song...Now I've got it in my head again...

thanks....Just thanks.

Good points SiC. Helpful the day after. Definitely.....

Or are we just rationalizing and putting our beer goggles back on???
We will know in 2 weeks! :-)

Tom C said...

Hmm who's soft in the head now?
Been noticing Denard can't throw the deep ball for weeks, and what the hell was that on the blocked FG?
I'm not a hater, just weary of this.

Denard will learn....

My favorite Bill Parcells' quote: "you are what your record is".

Right now we're 5-2. If in a month we're 7-3/8-2, we'll be a decent team going to a decent bowl. And Michigan fans can go into 2011 entitled to have some high expectations.

If in a month we are 6-4/5-7, we'll be a bad team headed to the Pizza Bowl, or no bowl @ all. And Michigan fans can go into 2011 entitled to have some high expectations, for their new coach.

Ultimately, all the questions will answer themselves.

Tom C said...

He might, or not. The point is that they have and have had someone that can.
Anyone know what Threet and Mallet are doing these days?
Wonder where Tate will be next year?

I've had a good nights sleep and a couple of long walks - so I feel a little more calm and rational.

No one expected to win against Iowa. We still have a real shot at 7 wins. Both Purdue and Penn State are very banged up and vulnerable.

I don't see us beating Illinois, Wisconsin, or the Buckeyes.

A bowl bid is the goal.

Andy
Illinois has a true frosh @ QB & a very bad passing attack. Games @ home. I think we might surprise you.

Last night's Badgers will probably kill us.

On the other hand, last night's tosu team? They play like that on 11/27? That could be closer thsn you think. Doesn't matter if we can't cover a receiver if Powlus/Pryor can't get ball to within 10 yds of him!

Bigasshammm said...

It's time to give Tate a game or two at QB. He's a much better "leader" than Robinson. And they could have Robinson next to him in the second TB slot giving defenses something new to think about. Robinson while at QB isstill just a one trick pony and doesn't have the grasp of the offensive players like Tate does. Tte looks in control when he's out there and should since he's had the training for years.

I'm still at my mom's, so here are my pictures from the pregame stuff. I have to do some cropping and stuff to my game photos.
