Holy shit!

At a bike race in Matamoros, Mexico on Sunday, fourteen people were injured and one person was killed when a car slammed into the cyclists.

How the fuck do you not see a bike race coming at you?

As a cyclist this was very hard to look at. I hope they throw the book at the driver!!

I've been to Mexico and it is crazy. Whereas we put on seatbelts, I swear they routinely put on blindfolds before they drive. We want some nice rims on a car in America. In Mexico, they want bulletproof windows. Drinking and driving is their national religion.

In the full picture, there is actually a police car sitting to the right of the car at that very moment!!

This was all over the news in Mexico. The guy apparently was drunk and high when he slept on the wheel and collided with the bikers. The photo was taken by a cop's car that tried to prevent the accident but could not catch the speeding car.

I want to know how the cameraman got the picture...it looks almost staged.

Building a wall between us and Mexico is starting to make more sense.

Holy jeez! We vacation in South Padre every fall and always head across the border to shop and eat in Matamoros. Think I'll stay on this side of the border this year.

Ouch! Holy Mother of.......

Off topic, but in an effort to make the football season come quicker, I took a statistics class that meets for 2 hours every day in June........the prof is fabulous in 2 days I have learned more about statistics than I have in the other two 16 week classes I took in stats! June should fly by, then I just have July and August......*sigh*

I am scared just WALKING ON THE SIDEWALK in Mexico.

They really need to improve their high school Driver's Ed program down there.

According to initial reports, the drive is a US citizen from Brownsville, TX.

Now I understand why American automobile insurance policies are generally not valid in Mexico.

I was hit for the first time on my bike last Saturday. The driver took off; obviously the jack*ss cared more about not getting caught than whether or not I was still breathing. I am thankful every second that the only damage I received was a bruise and a slightly-used passenger mirror.

While it was easy to catch the bastard in this story (I hope they beat him to a pulp before taking him to prison) I am now bombarded with hit-and-run stories like my own... most of them much worse.

Please please please please:
1) give cyclists lots of room when you pass them.
2) please don't honk
3) they're entitled to the road and may ride in the center lane if they choose, it's only a courtesy to you that they ride to the side
4) if you're in an accident, stop and help, it's what you would want

First off, that sucks that happened to you and I hope they nail the douche.
Second, last year I was following a pickup truck when I saw them throw a half full Gatorade bottle out the window at some cyclists, knocking one into the ditch. I called his plates in right away, told them to get someone over to the biker and went back to make sure he was OK. He was shaken but in one piece. The cop showed up after a few minutes and let us know they stopped the truck a few miles down the road. I tell you this so you don't think I hate cyclists but it's only a courtesy to them that I don't honk and cuss at them. What makes them think they can go 15 in a 55 and everyone should just slow down because of them? I have no problem slowing down and passing them but when there's a blind corner or hill or lots of oncoming traffic and they just keep on going in the way of faster vehicles it's bullshit. They can ride the roads all they please but if they see that they're slowing up traffic they should have the common sense to get way off to the side and let faster traffic pass. Are trying to tell me that if you're in your car and the idiot in the car in front of you is going 40 under the speed limit for no reason you aren't annoyed? Sharing the road and being courteous goes both ways.
