"You don't know, do you?"

I hadn't planned on posting anything until after the holiday. I was content to relax and stay away from my blogging addiction. Then I read a blurb in Newsweek about the clip below and I couldn't get to the computer fast enough.

Now, you know how we love our cheerleaders here on the MZone. Of course we prefer when they're female who go from pom-pons to porn, even more so after this story of male cheerleader who went from screaming on the sidelines to screaming on the airwaves.

Kevin James (not the actor) is a former Oklahoma Sooner cheerleader-turned-lawyer-turned-radio talkshow host in Los Angeles. And judging from the YouTube video here, he's one of those modern day firebrands who "prove" the validity of their points and positions, not via the content of their argument, but by being louder than those with an opposing point of view. Because no matter where you personally fall on the political spectrum, as we all know from watching the "news shows" that pass for political discourse in our country today, louder means smarter.

To set the stage for what you're about to watch, in a nutshell...

Last week, President Bush addressed Israel's Parliament and basically compared those who negotiate with "terrorists and radicals" to British leader Neville Chamberlain's appeasement of Hitler and Nazi Germany before WWII. Democrats claimed the remarks were aimed at Barack Obama, the White House denied he was the target.

Shortly after Bush made the remarks, MSNBC's Chris Matthews had KRLA's James, a "right-wing" radio talkshow host in Los Angeles, and a Mark Green, a "left-wing" radio host from Air America, on HARDBALL to discuss the brewing controversy. Below is the clip. You MUST watch. Really.

Please know, putting this up is not an endorsement of one political party, candidate or viewpoint. Whether you agree or disagree with the President's comments, James' uninformed ignorance is simply staggering. And all the shouting in the world can't hide it.

You know, folks, it's one thing for those of us talking smack on a college football blog to be full of shit. It's another when you're on a national TV show discussing U.S. foreign policy issues and presidential politics.

I mean, trying to defend your position on something as frivolous as the college football superiority of INSERT SCHOOL HERE and being wrong is sometimes funny. Being a radio host in the second largest market in America and stirring up passions on issues of real importance when you don't know what the fuck you're talking about is scary.

P.S. I just went to the KRLA website to see if this James guy still had a job (somehow he does from the looks of it) and you know what the station's slogan is? Oh, this is rich in light of the above: Intelligent. Conservative. Talk Radio.

Genius.

Seriously. That is both funny and sad. Funny b/c Kevin James is clearly a moron, and sad b/c he represents a large segment of the voting population in this country, if not the majority. I love it when Mark Green suggests he read Richard Clark's book and Kevin James invites him to watch 'Pathway to 911'. Kevin is obviously not an avid reader and so typifies the 'non-intellectual' elite that have been on control of this country for so long.

Yeah ... it's sad, but at the same time, I'm pretty sure the producers knew what they were getting when they asked him to appear. So I'm guessing they got what they were looking for, and if that's the case, then it's sad they'd be looking for that.

REALLY sad to see an ass-bag like that can even go on radio, let alone t.v.

The worst thing is about 25% of our population is every bit as stupid as that guy.

Chris Matthews spoke at my college graduation. He was a genius. And arch-conservative and anti-woman's rights activist Phyllis Schlafly was getting an honorary degree there, and Chris Matthews basically pwned her.

FWIW, Bush has been making pretty much the exact same speech about appeasement and Hitler for almost his entire term in office. I find It interesting now that this particular speech was considered to be specifically aimed at Obama. I'm certain Obama would be included in the collective targets, but I think Bush would have delivered a similar (if not exactly the same) speech regardless of Obama's policies. The fact that its campaign time was just an added bonus.

Its sad that Kevin James is unfortunately more of the rule than the exception when it comes to the political "experts" out there. I watch Real Time with Bill Maher, who is decidedly Democrat, and he has blow-hards like Kevin James from both ends of the political spectrum on his show all the time. People who makes gross overstatements, people who raise ridiculous conspiracy theories, and people who are so mislead that you wonder if they even read the newspaper. The pattern that I've come to notice is ...

1) Its easy to make someone look stupid when you are the one asking the questions (like Chris Matthews).
2) The audience responds more to the gross overstatements than the well thought out arguments (like the ones Kevin James offers).

Its sad really. Kevin James and his ilk should ALL be fired.

In defense of Kevin James, he DID answer the question: Neville Chamberlain was an appeaser who energized, legitimized AND legitimized and energized Hitler...through appeasement...with his appeasing ways of energizing and legitimizing. Hitler, dammit!

Thank you Yost, that is CLASSIC. I kinda doubt the producers knew he he was that ignorant. I mean really? REALLY!?! And it is fairly easy to make someone look stupid when you're asking the questions, but even easier when your guest is moron. Perhaps when you don't know the factual evidence behind you argument you'd be better off to simply shut it.

And fwiw, Mark Green's toupee was clearly made for radio.

ap·pease Audio Help [uh-peez] Pronunciation Key - Show IPA Pronunciation
–verb (used with object), -peased, -peas·ing.
1. to bring to a state of peace, quiet, ease, calm, or contentment; pacify; soothe: to appease an angry king.
2. to satisfy, allay, or relieve; assuage: The fruit appeased his hunger.
3. to yield or concede to the belligerent demands of (a nation, group, person, etc.) in a conciliatory effort, sometimes at the expense of justice or other principles.

this doesn't seem to be anywhere near what the host claimed that the word meant.... while captain cheerleader boy was way out of whack and over the top.... the host was a dumbass too. IMO.

This is exactly what the host said the word meant. Neville allowed Germany to take control of half of Czechoslovakia. You need to learn how to read.

I'm not sure what is worse....
Kevin James' ignorance or Chris Matthews' persistence in the face of ignorance

actually....
technically....

it should be "which" is worse

Joshua, they may not have predicted quite the level of ignorance he demonstrated, but I'm sure they knew he would provide pretty much all volume and no intelligence. Unless he just started his radio show the day before, there's no way they didn't know that's how he worked.

He did get one thing right, Bill Clinton turned a blind eye to terrorism, which lead to 9/11. Yes, 9/11 happened while Bush was president, but you don't plan that attack over a 9 month period that was multiple years in the making.

Since, Bush has been president name one terrorist activity post 9/11 that has happened on our SOIL?

While it is sad to see our Men and WOMEN die or get hurt overseas, just imagine it being young children and innocent Men and Women on their way to work or at work with bombs going off!

Some of you will tell me the above statement is an OVERSTATEMENT, but I'd rather fight this fight on their soil then in our own backyard.

And who on here on 9/12 didn't want to see us go kick some ass overseas for what had been done on 9/11?!?!

YOST, you really have to get back to CFB ... not politics!

You know that there's a direct correlation between the decrease in the number of pirates, and global warming, right?

Doesn't anyone else think its funny that while Chris is beating this guy up for not knowing history he goes on to say that Bush was president when the USS Cole was attacked.

Now that's funny!

"Okay Champ, why don't you just stop talking for a while?"

Seriously, no one went that way? A whole group of snarky types and it took 22 comments?

Ram61 said...

The whole country wanted to kick some ass after 9/11 yes, and look where thats gotten us. Im sure Clinton has some blame for the attacks, but if the past 8 years have shown us anything its that you can never give Bush the benefit of the doubt with something like this. You also mention how youd rather fight the fight on their soil. Iraq had nothing to do with it, so the proper sports analogy here would be going to Iowa City to play OSU.

COREY, you really shouldn't defend a war where thousands of young americans are dying for no specific purpose...

Ok people.

I have listened to Kevin James because he's on here in So Cal. The fact that some of you seem to know his intellect because he didn't know one thing sort of puts you in the same stupid category you put James in.

The other thing I do know about these political shows is that they want people who can create the hoopla and are very scripted. It wouldn't surprise me if this was somewhat staged.

One thing is that as much as James made himself look like a fool, he is no dummy as many of you seem to think.
