Happy Memorial Day Weekend

Hope everyone has a fun-filled holiday.

But before we all part ways for a long weekend of beer, burgers and general relaxation, I pass on an interesting YouTube video sent in by MZone reader RA. Since embedding was disabled, unfortunately I can only include the link below. But suffice it to say, you won't be disappointed.

So click here and enjoy!

I was there in the law library the day that they filmed that....
or was it the Union ball room????

Catie said...

It looks like the Union Ball Room.

Aside from that, and the fact that Yost might be promising us that he is never going to "give us up" I ummmmm is missing the point here!

I concur with Catie and did not understand the way of that video. But alas maybe we were not supposed to?? Anyway yes a happy weekend to all. I have not looked forward to a weekend like this in some time. As my family structure breaks down an my job is just an annoyance it will be a welcome break to actually have a weekend of plus 70 degree weather. My itinerary goes something like this. Sat: work all day in the big brown truck. Come home change breaks on a POS Jetta. Drink heavily. Sun golf and drink heavily at 630 in the morning. Come home continue to work on said POS Jetta. Continue to drink heavily. Monday morning wake up early drink coffee and smoke cigar on back porch while watching the insanely low C130 flyover my house. Dig some holes in yard to start my Government stimulus fence my dog received. Drink heavily. All the while trying not to kill my family or take my newborn daughter and flee to a Corona commercial.

Enjoy your weekend.

A Rick Roll? Really? Enjoy your weekend, fuckers.

Catie and BAH, This will help with the confusion a little. Definition #2.

And don't think for one second I didn't think about a redundant Rick-Rolling.

Amazing lead-in to the holiday weekend.

What's more amazing is that I'm 98% sure that this is the SECOND time in the last 6 months or so that I've seen that song linked from a CFB blog. (EDSBS? Orson's always posting random videos.)

Again, thanks for helping start out the weekend the right way.

Phil that was funny! It is my favorite saying, only I never used "that" word before!!

Thanks Josh for making me feel REALLY stupid for watching the entire video, coz I thought that there had to be SOMETHING I was suppose to see! :P

No Catie, it's the internet equivalent of playing "Slug Bug".

Can;t believe I was rick-rolled on the MZone. Good one, Yost.

By the way - funny vid got forwarded to me the other day about a beer bonging tailgating incident gone bad.

OOC - Haha. I don't think so, pal. Still...a beer bong incident you say? Hmmmmmm....

You bastard.

Catie said...

At least I didn't watch it in it's entirety!

Shame on you OOC!

Okay, so I actually clicked the link and suffered through Opie and Pottsie's love child lip-synching some irrelevant tripe.

This is how my day is going to start!?

Curse you, Red Baron!

Yost,

If you're looking for some sports to enjoy this weekend, the NCAA lacrosse championship is fun to watch. The semifinals are Saturday at Noon (on ESPN2) and the final is on Memorial Day itself (on ESPN). I'm an active campaigner for the sport, which is growing much faster than any other, and I blog about it regularly on Facebook (I think next fall I'm gonna start a formal blog related to college lacrosse as well as football, basketball, and ice hockey). Lax is a Memorial Day tradition and I intend to preach the gospel.

OOC: Yost fooled me once. You did NOT fool me twice, bud. I applaud you for the attempt, though.

Also, this weekend, there's this little game between a team in Michigan against some team from Pennsylvania, The Pittsburgh Crosby's or something like that. I know this a college football site, but I'm sure some of us are wings fans as well. Go Wings!

TitleIX said...

And don't forget the NCAA Softball Super Regional U of M vs. VaTech LIVE from Ann Arbor, Saturday at Noon and Sunday at 1 pm (and 3 pm if needed)

GO BLUE!!!!

Yost-

What do you have to say to this-- particularly the third comment?

Ron,

I know I would definitely be in the minority, but there's lots of Pennsylvanians who've moved to Metro Detroit in the last 30 years.

as a lifelong penguins fan, I've been waiting for this matchup for 17 years....

GO PENS!!!!

Also for great sports television this weekend the F1 race from Monaco is this Sunday on Speed. Qualifying is Saturday. For those of you video gamers this is the Cote D'Azur track on Gran Turismo. Amazing sites and so much money it's ridiculous.

I took my Rick Roll like a man and watched the whole thing. Is it sad/gay that I actually like that song?

Joshua said...

Buccaneer, there is nothing sad/gay about The Astley. I have a feeling that man saw more ass than a toilet seat ion his day.

Women's softball, Red Wings hockey, beer, car racing, family time, etc., don't forget about the vets. Regardless of your political persuasion, service members simply serve their country proudly.

Adam said...

Usually I actually GO to the lacrosse championship on Memorial Day weekend. Go to the beach? Barbecue? No, just lacrosse and Italian food. But I'm not going this year because it's in Foxboro, where there's NOTHING to do. It was in Philly two years ago and I went and had a blast.

Besides lacrosse, I guess there's the NBA and NHL playoffs to watch.

Sgt. Wolverine said...

Adam,

My local high school just started a lacrosse club, and since part of my living is photographing high school sports here, I may have to start paying some attention to the sport. If I do add it to my workload, I'm looking forward to learning more about it; I got to watch it once on TV, and it looked like a sport I'd really enjoy being around, but this is really my first chance to really be around it regularly.

Joshua said...

Sarge,

Keep in mind I'm available as a freelance parent slapper if lacrosse parents are just as idiotic as most others.

Yost,
Just noticed your clip was sent in from MZone reader "RA". Damn it you're a clever bastard.

Adam said...

Actually, most northern lacrosse programs (Syracuse comes to mind) are very blue collar. I've seen many fans on IL rail on Princeton, Hopkins, Virginia, Duke, and UNC for being soccer momish wine and cheese programs (which is pretty much the case). And you'd be surprised at the amount of blue collar support for the sport.

Also, there's a part of me that thinks the wait for Michigan lacrosse will soon come to an end for several reasons:

1. The Big East is likely forming a men's lacrosse league in 2010, and Notre Dame will thus have to leave the GWLL, meaning that league will need a new team to make it keep its auto bid.

2. Michigan, who just won the club "National Championship" in lacrosse, was at a combine at Hopkins.

3. If Title IX is a concern, they can just add a women's team, too. And I know you guys like co-eds at this blog, and I must say that lacrosse women are way sexier than cheerleaders, particularly in the north.

TitleIX said...

thanks for the compliment, but I've never played lacrosse ;-)

U of M 1, Va Tech 0
watch the replay for the best head-first slide into home plate to beat the throw from center field game winning run EVER.

GO BLUE
GO WINGS
GO 'STONeS

Adam said...

I saw that score, heh. Congrats to Michigan softball. You know, I always found college softball more appealing than college baseball, heh. Congrats to Michigan on their win.

You should get into it, T9. You missed some VERY exciting games today. Syracuse erased a third quarter five goal deficit to win in double overtime, and Hopkins did what no one thought anyone could do: beat Duke.

I have a feeling that when lacrosse spreads outside the Northeast, it will begin to have a large following (in the Northeast there are a lot of people who follow it as vigorously as they follow football and basketball and in my case ice hockey as well; I try to follow all four sports if I can).

Bigasshammm said...

Well it's 5:30. Went to bed at 1am also. Not feeling so good but that's why I have a cooler full of beer and cigars to get me through the day's festivities. Leaving for golf in a minute but must stop at a local gas station and purchase one of their gallons of coffee. Enjoy day 2 of your weekend people. I hope to spend some time lying on the couch watching million dollar cars go way faster than any other car around a very small and tight track later.
It's a shame they don't ever race in the US.

Adam said...

Is there any hockey or basketball on tonight (my question mark key is broken) If not, I have nothing to do. I don't consider stock car racing to be a sport.

Adam said...

Just finished watching the lax NC, and Syracuse won.

And for those of you who still think this is a niche sport, 48,790 people attended, which was a record for the third year in a row.

Still waiting for Michigan to get a team. Until then, we'll have to settle for football and ice hockey (and hopefully basketball someday before I turn 30).

whetstonebuck said...

"I don't consider stock car racing to be a sport."

And

"And for those of you who still think this (lax) is a niche sport, 48,790 people attended, which was a record for the third year in a row."

Let's see, 48,790. That would be the number of food vendors at a typical NASCAR non-sport event, no?

Adam said...

Well, it's popular in the South and in the country. I live in the city in the Northeast. I'm not denying Nascar's popularity. I'm just saying it's regional, that's all, just like lacrosse is.

People once called me un-American (and more recently slurs based on sexual orientation) for liking lacrosse, which is ironic considering we celebrate our sport on Memorial Day weekend. :)

whetstonebuck said...

Adam,

I was bored so I thought I would poke the bear a little.

I don't know anything about lacrosse or NASCAR. I just like conversing.

Meditative Memorial Day to you.

Adam said...

Meh, it's over. The NCAA season is basically over. Now I'm getting ready for football.
