Gator Uses Credit Card of Teammate's Dead Girlfriend

This is messed up.

Florida Gator safety Jamar Hornsby has been charged for allegedly using the credit card of a woman who was killed in a motorcycle accident that also killed a teammate.

The woman, who was the girlfriend of one of Hornsby's teammates, was getting a ride home from Gator walk-on Michael Guilford when his motorcycle struck a curb at high speed last October 12th.

Hornsby allegedly started using the dead woman's credit card on October 13th.

Yeah, as in the next day!

Police are unsure how he got his hands on the credit card but EDSBS reports it happened when Hornsby was helping his teammate clean out his girlfriend's apartment the day after she tragically died.

If the allegations are true, forget getting kicked off the team, this guy needs to spend some extra time in a jail cell for the added crime of being a complete piece of shit and embarrassment to humanity.

This is lower than any one single act ever committed at Oklahoma (even under Switzer), Miami, Alabama, Auburn, Ole Miss, Florida St., Clemson, Texas Tech, Colorado, and SMU COMBINED!!

Absolutely disgusting.

Bet Urban Meyer won't even kick him out of the starting lineup...

This is par for the course with the felony colleges in Florida.

WOW!! Could he be that stupid to think that he wouldn't get caught? Even so, truly appalling!

Here's the funny thing about this kid. UM was close to getting this kid and Lefty even promised him the #1 jersey should he had picked UM (he was recruited as a WR by UM).

I hope I don't get flames into oblivion for this.

As bizarre as these circumstances are and as tragic as the death, isn't this, in a sense, more a victimless crime than credit card fraud involving a living person who might actually be held to account for the charges (a la Kevin Quick)? Who knows what he used the credit card for. From my very limited knowledge of medicine and health insurance (admittedly mostly Scrubs and House) doctors sometimes bill procedures for poor patients to the insurance of recently deceased, well-covered patients. Might something similar have hppened here? On the other hand, this might have been just out and out sick, but I thought it was important that we consider potential extenuating factors.

Catie said...

Nice thought Daniel, however, I don't think that there is any excuse to break the law. (hmm, strong statement, given I just now sent my income tax in (late) and without an extension filed, which by definition is breaking the law) Nevertheless, what ever the reason, he stole money. Period. The majority of people in America are financially strapped and they don't take the credit card of their dead buddies, dead girlfriend and use it.

As a health professional, I am certain that there are health professionals that bill incorrectly (most by accident, the regulations are extensive and confusing) however MOST health professionals understand the meaning of fraud and don't wish to risk their livelihood, they are more inclined to offer charity care (which is also highly regulated and not easy to offer)

I suppose then if he had gone to the bank and committed armed robbery for the sake of paying his health care bill, that would be acceptable too?

Daniel Kessler said...

Good follow up Catie. I'm not saying what he did is right by any means and admitted that my healthcare knowledge is really limited. All I was saying was that the "dead girlfriend" angle to me was somewhat sensationalist (though interesting, and so I understand why it gets reported in that context) and not really related to the credit card fraud and that if anything made the fraud a more "victimless" crime.

Justin said...

This is one slimeball that deserves everything he gets and more.

Catie said...

Unfortunately Daniel, credit card fraud isn't a victimless crime just because she is dead. Our society will pay the price for this crime. Just because ONE person isn't affected by this, doesn't mean that someone isn't going to be a victim, the next time your credit card interest rate increases, you can thank this loser. There are no free rides, and as a society, we are paying heavily for these types of things. Sorry, you seem like a compassionate fellow, and I have more compassion than it may seem by these posts, but the reality is, he made a huge mistake, and needs to face the consequences.

Maize said...

Daniel,

This isn't a victimless crime. The victims are all of us law abiding citizens who end up paying the higher interest rates that credit cards charge to make up for those that do what this POS ahole did.

Daniel Kessler said...

I don't mean to keep defending myself as I don't believe this crime is A-OK and wasn't claiming such, but I think some of you are arguing with something I didn't actually say. I didn't say that this is a victimless crime, but suggested that the fact that the card holder is deceased makes this more a victimless crime than if the card holder was still alive and potentially liable for some of the costs.

Delmar O'Donnell: Oh son, for that you sold your everlasting soul?

Tommy Johnson: Well, I wasn't usin' it."

And there you have it. She wasn't usin' it.

T9, wasn't it Assclown who wrote that about the Lions and Stanton? That would explain any questions about the article.

OSURulz said...

Daniel,

I appreciate your attempt to play devil's advocate here, but I think people would be far more forgiving if he did steal a living person's credit card. Stealing from the dead, particularly in a time of tragedy for your team, shows a certain lack of humanity that frankly is hard for me to even comprehend. It really exposes what his real priorities are and I don't see how anyone could trust him after somthing like this.

after alllll these years, Marty Turco is STILL a wild man who leaves the crease on a regular basis, but is still a freakin' wall......

and, props to Philly's Mike Knuble.

Any other Michigan alum playing in these NHL playoffs???

Offhand, I can think of Brendan Morrison, Mike Comrie, Nystrom, Hensick plays for the fucking Avalanche, Jack Johnson out in LA, David Moss, Aaron Ward, big hitter Jed Ortmeyer, Cammalleri, Komisarek, Cogliano, and Madden...

But none of them are in NHL's final four.

Given Maurice Clarret went tUoOS, I doubt sweater vest would either.

Thanks Sru!

My 3 babies are all in college, I will see them next weekend! They sent me an iTunes gift card and I spent an hour on the phone yesterday with my youngest son, surfing iTunes, so I am really rockin it today! (New songs include Ruby (Kaiser chiefs), Closer (nine inch nails), a mash up song of Def Leppard's Pour some sugar on me, among many others! Great music always makes the day better!

sru,
not the first time i've been called a "mother", but certainly one of the more polite times.

after a whirl wind of kid things on Saturday, i found myself @ Krogers, 8:00 a.m., looking for cards w/ a dozen or so other dads who had obviously just woke up, realized they hadn't bought a d#@$ card, and had hustled their butts down to the store before the wife wakes up.

refreshing to know i'm not the f*$^ up in the neighborhood.

wife loved the gift, kids given all the credit. typical mothers day.

Joshua said...

Lol SiC,

For some reason I have this picture of you and about 8 other guys, hair all askew looking like you obviously just woke up and needing a cup of coffee. And since everyone threw on whatever they could find to get out of the house quickly it's you in a Michigan t-shirt and about half the others in Buckeye gear. And someone handing a card to you, chuckling, saying "Hey have you seen this one? By the way, Fuck Michigan." And you cordially replying "No, I haven't but check this one out. And Tressell eats the souls of kittens."

This totally needs to be made into a commercial.

whetstonebuck said...

Eating the souls of kittens is what makes us so fierce in National Championship games.

Besides, what else are cats good for?

OSURulz said...

I believe Weis eats the souls of kittens. Not because he's evil, just not picky.

Joshua, NOW your comic genius has returned. That was funny!

josh,
not too far off. it was cool & damp sunday, so a lot of ball caps & sweat shirts. unfortunately (for the story), i wore my hershey bears hoodie & didn't draw any Meatchicken crap.

otherwise, you pretty much nailed it.

Lord knows, you can't devour enough Wolverine teams to get even one.

As a Gator Fan this is appalling. I can not think of a lower thing to do to a teammate and friend. He was quickly kicked off the team (sorry Chris in NC). Every Gator fan I know wanted him booted.

However, the crime committed here was credit card fraud. The fact of whose card it was makes it despicable but did not make the 'Crime' any worse. My point is that as bad as this sounds, it is not even in the same league as some of the other crimes committed by college football players.

LJTunes...Lets be honest here. The only reason Meyer kicked him off the team is because he wouldn't have seen significant playing time anyway, with the signing of Will Hill and Dee Finley. Meyer is not the disciplinarian that everyone thinks he is. He makes examples of expendable players.

This is absolutely discussing. I truly feel terrible for the victim’s family.

god of the whoppers said...

This is absolutely discussing
obviously, with 40 comments (about 25 pertinent), this is very discussing, but it is also disgusting (which is what i think you ment)

LJTunes said...

Bryan,

Actually, Hornsby has a very impressive spring and we in the mix for a starting spot. Marcus Thomas was a starter and was booted in the mists of MNC run in '06. Meyer is probably not the saint that the media built him up to be, but he is no Bobby Bowden.
