With college football seeming like a far away fantasy in the off-season dead zone known as May, I've been getting my sports fix via the Red Wings and the Pistons.
And they have not disappointed.
Yesterday, the Wings blitzed the Colorado Avalanche 8-2 to sweep the series 4-0 and move on to the Western Conference finals where they will meet the winner of the Dallas-San Jose series.
Big props to goalie Chris Osgood who stepped in midway thru the Nashville series when aging All-Star Dominik Hasek faltered. In his first tour of duty with the Wings in the 90s, even though he won a Cup, there were lingering questions about his mental fortitude. Hopefully this puts such talk to rest.
As for the Pistons, after being down 2-1 in the series and 10 points at halftime of game four against the Philadelphia 76ers, the Pistons stormed back to win game four, then post blowouts in games 5 and 6 to advance to the Eastern Conference semis against the Orlando Magic.
Go Motown!

and dare I say that the Tigers may have righted the ship???
Fun times!
Go Cavs!
^^^^
exactly, go cavs. i hate the fuckin pistons.
but i LOVE the wings. i'm the perfect sports fan methinks.
my teams are browns, wolverines, red wings, cavs, and though i hate baseball, i still cheer for the indians.
Re: Tigers
First 3-game sweep in Yankeeland since 1966, according to Sage Steele. She's cute, so I believe her.
IT looks like the Tigers are finally starting to look like the team we thought they were going to look like. Granderson's back. Polanco's healthier. Sheff's healthier. Now if the pitching can get settled in...
NHL: RED WINGS
NFL: Fantasy Football rules who I cheer for ... unless its the Pats and Brady (sorry T9 and Catie no embedded pic) in the playoffs!
NBA and MLB sucks ... boring sports
CFB: of course MICHIGAN and anyone beating Tuos (nice job LSU)
All Detroit and Michigan teams for me. I pretty much despise any team from Ohio, pro or college, so I guess that takes me off dabraylon's X-mas card list. But, unlike most other Piston fans, I like LeBron. Guy has been incredible given how much pressure on him he had coming into the league.
Oh, and Sage Steele is the finest woman in sports broadcasting right now. Yes, better than Jill Arrington. Yes, better than Suzy and Rachel Nichols.
Oh, and the Avs suck. That is all.
I like the Tigers, but I've liked the Yankees ever since I was knee high to a grasshopper. It kind of gives me torn loyalties when they play each other.
I like the Lions but I have no idea why.
I also like the Red Wings.
If I cared about basketball, I'd like the Pistons.
For college I like Michigan and Eastern (because I went there).
Oh yeah, for teams I hate....Any team from Texas...
The Cokeboys, the Stars, the Rangers, the Astros, the Longhorns, the Aggies...the Dallas School for the Blind and Deaf...doesn't matter.
Although I do like Nolan Ryan.
Yeah, Yost--why no love for the Tiiiigs??!?
The only thing worse than a buckstache is an avehole.
The bellyaching coming from Colorado fans is deafening. The sweep for the season could not have happened to a nicer red-neck-sheep-fucking-wife-
beating-sweaty-yellow-t-shirt-
wearing-Coors-drinking-inbred fanbase.
GO WINGS!!!
If Dallas wins, that means this playoff season they'll have played Anaheim, San Jose, and Detroit... holy cow!!! SEC fan ain't got nothing on Dallas.
Vada...
I call your Sage Steele and raise you Charissa Thompson from the Big Ten Network.
Oh. My. Lord.
After Googling Ms. Thompson, I will heartily agree with you. Now this is the point where I start making threatening phone calls to Comcast for depriving me of this wonder for so long....
(Btw, I can barely find any pictures of her fully clothed as a BTN reporter. Does she do interviews in bikinis, too?)
