Wolverines Reach Frozen Four (Again!)

Even though it isn't our forte here at the MZone, as many of you have suggested, we would be remiss to not mention the Michigan men's hockey team. Yesterday, the top ranked Wolverines reached the Frozen Four in Denver April 10th with a thrilling 2-0 victory over Clarkston. I believe this marks the Wolverines' 22nd trip to the Frozen Four, the most in NCAA history.

I caught the last period and that was some damn exciting hockey. Goaltender Billy Sauer was outstanding, especially during a 6-on-3 Clarkston advantage in the last two minutes of play when he made some circus saves to preserve the victory and his shutout.

Big props to Red Berenson and his squad.

With a Miami victory... 3 of 4 could be from the CCHA.

Nice to get Notre Dame in the semis...

Time to warm up the, "just like football" chant!!!

See? There's stuff to do during the offseason!

Yeah, that was some fantastic hockey. Wow.

That's cool.

I believe it's actually the 23rd time Michigan has made the frozen four. That's what I heard the commentator say. It's also a NCAA record.

Porter was some kind of dominant. They can start engraving the Hobey right now.

Go Blue.

I did a wiki search on this "hockey" thing. Very Interesting. BiB - you guys hear about this over in Alabama? It's on ice!

Catie said...

Congrats! That is awesome!!

I hear the women BB lost to Sparty though ;o(

Was it 1998 when Michigan last won the NC?? That was my junior year... and only really remember part of that night...

Would be nice to at least have a NC somewhere in the UM sports department.

And FWIW... the Davidson v. Kansas game was one of the best of the tourney!

Sauer was out of his mind on that 6-3. Truley amazing to watch.

I will be in attendance with my voice booming out!!!

corey... I called the tix office today (1-866-296-6849); they have a recording which states frozen 4 info will be available Tuesday.

The folks on eBay and StubHub are pretty proud of their packages... I've regularly seen what is normally a ~$80 package starting at $300.

Speaking of Refs and blowing... Shego is still reffing and he was calling one of the games yesterday.... arrrghh!

We want more goals! Sieve, sieve, sieve, sieve, sieve, sieve, it's all your fault, it's all your fault, it's all your fault, it's all your fault.

good thing they don't play MSU in the frozen four.

/threadjack needed for advice
It is with sadness and trepidation that I request your input regarding my upcoming trip to (gulp) C-bus. You see, there is a meeting there which I must attend and cannot delegate.
Do I:
a) Drive my own car with the big ol' block M license plate and not worry since the folks in C-bus really aren't neanderthals and welcome all visitors
b) Drive my own car but be sure to back it into a parking space against a wall and remain stealth from the donut pitching neanderthals
c) Rent a car with or without Michigan plates and drive that down there to avoid any possible damage to my car?

You don't suck, you are a vacuum, you aren't a vacuum you are a black hole.......

Catie said...

T9, I friends who were traveling health professionals that worked in C'bus for a couple of years. They said that they had to keep their car "backed" in so the Michigan license plates did not show so that their car did not get damaged. This was particularly true on football game days, in fact on game day, they would not drive their car for fear of getting things thrown at them. (true story)

You in the mood for a new ride?

This could be your chance.

Rent the car, drive to Columbus with a bunch of Michigan stickers.
Tag all the other cars near you with the stickers. When you come out, the damage on the other cars will tell you if you made the right decision.
Worst case, you vandalize a bunch cars in the name of school spirit. Best case, a red on red feeding frenzy.

To improve you car survival odds...straddle the parking space line, based on previous posts.

if you don't mind me asking, where are you going? i park downtown in an garage attached to the office tower. have very few problems (at least this time of year) w/ the cars, despite alumni stickers front & back.

however, i am very careful where i park on campus, or in other parts of town. how much of a precaution you take depends on where you're going.

oh, and-

it's not the stick
it's not the puck
it's not gravity
you just SUCK
it's all your fault
it's all your fault

I drove around cleveland for a year with the oheo license plate "60BLUE" and not much happened. Sure a few red necks, the few that can read, wondered what in the hell Sixty Blue meant.

I made a couple trips down to Columbus to visit friends there (one of whom was a grad student there); all my trips were during that sad time of year called Not Football Season, and I didn't have any problems. It seems like they're militant during Football Season and just marginally obnoxious during Not Football Season.

Hemlock - at least it didn't say, "Blue60". Then you might get a few admirers.

I strongly support hockey--and any other activity that keeps a dude with a French surname too busy to put The Mack on my old lady.

I was at the UM v UNO game 2 weeks ago. Michigan won 10-1. There was a UNO goon with long hair, the student section chanted "DIRTY MULLET" when he was on the ice. When UNO got their 1 goal late in the game, (I was in section 3) the UNO fans in section 4 jumped up to cheer and the entire opposite side of the ice started pointing and chanting "UGLY PARENTS".

he he he, I was not familiar with such chants during my time in A2.

BTW, when I was in A2 a couple of weeks ago, I got a peek at the new baseball and softball facilities... did anyone go to opening day? They look really nice.

thanks for the advice all.
Sounds like straddle parking with my back against the wall is safest (universal truth??) and I will bring a stack of stickers as a diversionary tactic! ;-)

Haven't been to The Wilpon yet as the Men's Big Ten opener was postponed by, yep--wait for it....

I was ask to write a book on the cheers of Yost back in 1994. I have Marty Turco goal stick hanging on my wall.

srudoff said...

you don't want to straddle park in columbus and risk being part of that ground breaking "parking around campus" blog that yost featured a few days ago do you?????

Feelin' Blue said...

All set, T9. Just remember to straddle with your back up against the wall.

TitleIX said...

I'm thinking that if Yost ever found a picture of me straddle parked and posted it, there would be nothing but praise and awe ;-)

What section are you in? How much over face did you pay?

"All set, T9. Just remember to straddle with your back up against the wall."

I believe the proper term would be reverse cowgirl!

DVRd both hockey games so far and watched them when I got home from work. Will be DVRing this one Thurs as well. Hopefully I'll have something to watch and drink to on Saturday.

T9 as long as you stay away from the actual University in Columbus you should have no problems. Most you probably will get would be someone say something to you. Unless your car is obnoxiously decked out with UM stickers and such then maybe some keying will take place. When I had a gf that went there and I went to visit I always took my MI license plate holder off my car since I illegally parked in student dorm parking anyways it would have been towed for sure.

PS any news on the Spring Game? I look on Mgoblue.com but it doesn't say anything under football and last I checked on ESPN they had April 12th listed. Would like to come to it but need some info if anyone has any.
Email me if need be since I don't get much time on here anymore. Lil pooker takes up all my time :)

What's "straddle parking"? Is that the same as double parking. I hope not, because nothing makes me want to torch a car more than someone double parking... whether or not they have my school colors on their car.

This thread reminds me of my social life before I met my wife... sitting in a bar with a lot of "supposed" friends. They're talking about something interesting and I make a couple comments. No one pays me any attention, I just talk to myself and the bar tender- and that's only to say what kind of beer I want.

goat7ed said...

...and so I says to the guy, "Hey Hemlock, lucky that licence plate didn't say Blue60 or you might get some admirers."

Pass the pretzels. Hey OOC, when'd you get here?

jus kiddin...whole blog with no smartass Joshua posts. figured I'd sub.
