According to the Austin American Statesman story linked here, Democratic front-runner Barak Obama showed a little college football spirit when he stopped by to see Mack Brown and his Longhorns before his debate last night with Hillary Clinton on the UT campus.

It is dangerous to mix politics here, but since you brought it up......GO OBAMA!!!!
(And if Hilary wins I am moving to Canada!!)
:o)
well, i think i am going to vote for him, as i would NEVER vite for clinton (or a woman for that matter). i am a republican, and i like mccain, but i don't like the fact that he won't end the "war" in iraq. i'm sick of it quite frankly. that is pretty much the only reason that i won't vote for mccain. there is no need to be over there anymore. if obama will do what he says he will do (pull the troops out), then he gets my vote.
vote*
""(or a woman for that matter)""
Why does that not surprise me that you would say that dabraylon17?
Speaking of politics- I din't see much comment on the Toomer article. If you missed it he has no contact with the program and talked about how much of the playing time was politically driven. Interesting comment from a player who was on the field a great deal. anyone else think thre could be somethng to that? I mean how many All-World recruits have we had who never saw the light of day? I'm really hoping that one thing R2 brings is a sense of true competition like what they have at USC. In other words, everyone gets their shot, those who play have earned it regardless of class.
I was wondering when the election would come up on here. McCain has my vote - but I sincerely hope that Obama wins out over Hillary for the Democrats.
dabraylon - fyi - it is 2008. I would like to think that Americans will chose a candidate based on the issues, NOT silly things like gender or race - I know it's naive - but I can hope - right?
By the way - it would be interesting to find out more about the Toomer issue....
He was visiting Shady Brown? I am surprised because I cannot think of a single coach or past football player who isn't conservative. Bo and Woody were both ardent Republicans. I think Johnny Rodgers is a Republican. Also, Mike Ditka, the patron saint of Chicago football, is a Republican. Tom Osborne? Republican.
Joe Manchin, the de facto athletic director at WVU, er, governor of West Virginia attended WVU on a football scholarship and IS a Democrat; however, he didn't end up playing due to injury and he is against abortion.
In any case, I would extremely surprised if Mack Brown, a football coach at Texas of all states, is a Democrat.
Friend of mine is the gop head here in sc. He tells me it's hard to get women elected because women won't vote for them. My wife says she wouldn't vote for a woman president unles she is post menapause. Something about knives and other sharp items...
I think the candidate with the biggest dick should be president.
And that would be Hillary.
Crock-
I think the Toomer situation is being looked into a bit more, it made ppl curious about what went on.
Feelin',
Obama is a pragmatist as well as a sports fan and one hell of an intelligent guy. A photo op like that is brilliant and emphasises even more some of the differences between himself and Hillary. Plus you can't tell me that you'd pass up a chance to meet a presidential candidate from either party- has to be a tremendous experience.
Hey Tom, what's that old joke- something about with a woman president we would never go to war but would have really, really intense negotiations once a month.
bottom line is, a woman will never be president. that is not being sexist, it's just stating a fact. i just don't think a woman can handle the pressure of leading the most powerful (and hence the most hated) country in the world.
and Catie? why do you say "it doesn't surprise" you that i said that? you don't know me, so nothing i say should come as a shock or "non-shock" to you.
feelin' blue:
Obama in a photo-op at College Station would be a shock - no, apocolyptic. In Austin, not so much. In the state of Texas, UT and Rice (where I went to school) are seen as the pinko-commie-liberals-who-must-die universities (See Williams, Ricky). That's not necessarily true, of course, but it is the reputation - particularly among those who went to A&M or Baylor.
What I'm really interested in is what's so "shady" about Mack Brown. Other than "crying" about not getting into the BCS a few years ago, what's he done to be thrown into that category?
DaBraylon17, that is exactly what "sexist" means. Not voting for a women just because she is indeed a women is being sexist. Just because you're ignorant to what a women can and can't handle doesn't mean it's not a sexist statement.
If I wasn't going to vote for obama before (which I was) I certainly would now (which I am) : > Nice form.
why should I listen to you jeff? you don't even know the difference between the word "woman" and "women."
next?
as this is a cfb site, the question that I'm waiting to have answered is, how will this affect my tailgating and game attending in the fall?
Once a candidate is a nominee, they and their family receive Secret Service protection (unless they are married to a former president, then they have it already). As the likely-GOP nominee's son attends a school where the entire student body walks onto the field before each home game, how's this affect him or the fans?
And if he does get SS protection, could they consider putting him on kick returns?
Next?! Next? Are you kidding me? Ignorance>spelling error any day of the week.
I would much rather have Jeff have a "typo" in his comment, than a sexist statement. Typo's are so easily corrected.......ignorance about women is not.
Oh Noes, I said women instead of woman so my entire point is null and void.
Ignorance sure is bliss huh?
dabraylon stays true to form and the other neaderthals follow suit.
get this:
women don't need dicks, we are married to them, or we can buy one with or without batteries.
as for tough?
try blowing up a 3-4cm balloon in alternating testicles each month, leave it like that for a week or so and then pop it (BANG) open once a month every month.
you'd be curled up in a small little pathetic BALL every month.
so keep your ignorant shit about women being PUSSIES (which you want and need) to your damned self.
AND db17 WTF "vite"
keep going cuz that is just the PRE-PUFF rant. Don't let me get my fuckdragon riled up.
PLEASE back to football and the suspension of LSU's QB.....
wow. some of you people are way to sensitive. i think my fellow michigan fans need some counseling. as for the osu fans, whoever you may be, i really don't care what you need, or think, or say, or do. so whatever.
titleix, i'm sure if you actually READ, you wuold have seen that i corrected my mistake, hence the "vote*"
and if you guys get worked up over my expressing an opinion, then i don't know what else to say. we all have opinions, so there is no need to get worked up over it.
TitleiX: "get this:
women don't need dicks, we are married to them, or we can buy one with or without batteries."
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! That was a grand slam! Outstanding! I would have put the whole answer in but decided to save space. That was great!
As a McCain person, I won't be voting for Hillary or Obama. However, America has been long since ready for either a woman or a black person. The problem util now has been that the ones running like Jesse Jackson or the Rev Al are so outlandishly bad and corrupt that no one would go near them.
So,TitleiX, what's with LSU's QB? Is it one of those situations that could make us glad that we didn't get Miles?
T9 - you make women everywhere proud!
I knew you'd represent for us.
dabraylon17: "if obama will do what he says he will do (pull the troops out), then he gets my vote."
Well, then you're not going to like his answer depending on which audience he is in front of. In front of some crowd in CA, he said he would pull them out as his first act. In the SC dem debate he would not commit to having them out before 2013.
None of these candidates will give a straight answer to anything so believe them at your own peril.
"women don't need dicks, we are married to them, or we can buy one with or without batteries."
Would that statement qualify as sexist or bigoted?
Just curious.
truthiness whetstone.
truthiness. ;-)
as for Perrilloux at LSU, from Stewart Mandel at SI:
"Miles announced this week that, less than two weeks before the start of spring practice, the anticipated starting quarterback for the defending national champions has been suspended indefinitely "due to his failure to follow team rules." The New Orleans Times-Picayune reported that Perrilloux's recent transgressions include missing classes, workouts and at least one team meeting.
Amazingly, this marks the rising junior's third suspension in the past eight months, starting with his arrest in May 2007 for attempting to enter a casino with another person's I.D. (he was underage at the time). He was also left home from the Tigers' Nov. 3 game at Alabama following his involvement in a fight at a nightclub. Earlier in his career, Perrilloux was sought for questioning by federal and local officials investigating an alleged counterfeiting ring. (He was not charged.)"
Maybe Perrilloux needs to run some steps?????
PS--
is anyone else watching the combines???
Jake Long is A BEAST
37 bench presses?????
Holy big ugly up front, Batman!!!
The look on the face of that Broncos coach is awesome just as Jake is finishing- he looks off camera like Holy Jebus.
And Desean Jackson is only 5'9? I totally thought he was a tall dude.
Beast in Bama,
I wasn't completely aware of Rice and UT being considered commie schools. Again, thank you for clearing things up for me. Joshua
That seems to make sense about College Station being conservative. I know that it has a huge ROTC program, so I imagine that there is some correlation between the two. Obama is a smart guy. He'll probably side with OSU, however, as he is from Illinois and the Illini fucking hate Michigan. They just do. But it's cool. He's much more of an everyman than Bush.
I just don't like Mack Brown. I just can't put my finger on it. It's like me with the Dutch.
...and the SEC. Go Tigers! Beat the Vols!
That thing I said about Obama was directed at Joshua. I just put his name in the wrong paragraph.
Who else wants to smack Dick Vitale?
Ginger or MaryAnn?
didn't we have that discussion already whet?
TP was at the tOSU b-ball game yesterday.
I gotta say, I'm getting a little tired of this kid....
"as for tough?
try blowing up a 3-4cm balloon in alternating testicles each month, leave it like that for a week or so and then pop it (BANG) open once a month every month.
you'd be curled up in a small little pathetic BALL every month."
I think I just threw up in my mouth a little.
"didn't we have that discussion already whet?"
Yes. Yes we did, but it was so quiet around here my ears were beginning to hurt. I was desperate to prime the pump.
And here we are...
I would love for him to come, but it's probably not going to happen (that's what she said). Unfortunately, Russell Shepard enjoyed his visit to LSU, but there is more recruiting that remains and he has yet to visit Michigan. Hopefully a UM visit can blow him away.
That sucks that Juno barely won anything. I was hoping for Juno to win Best Picture to continue the year of the upset. I'm not supposed to enjoy the upsets though (App St, Pats Super Bowl), so no surprise there.
Mary Ann (Ginger in Private)
How about Gilligan, the Skipper, The Professor or Mr. Howell?
My choice, the professor
Catie,
For the brains or the contrast to the other two?
Whets, I am assuming you are asking about my choice of the professor.
That would be more for the brains. Intelligent Discourse is very sexy!
PS, Does anyone know how to do
Optimization using Linear programming?
Specifically, how to set up problems.
I am trying to catch up on my homework since my brother's death, it is spring break and NO ONE is available to help me. So.....if you have any clues.....I can use a clue!
Email please at nursekatie99 at yahoo dot com
(Sorry, but I am desperate enough to post this inappropriately here....;o)
The Professor will appear.
Really? I wish I had your confidence! Will that be in this lifetime or the next? ;o)
Pose the problem and he will solve.
You mean my optimization problem? HERE???
No. The Professor will find you.
You gave your email address. Geez, Louise, he's a professor after all. Give him some credit.
Right. Yeah. Sure. Like I said, In this life time or the next? LOL, if you only knew.....oye.
Let me get this straight: Phil Gramm is too goofy looking to be president...and this guy ISN'T??
How do I get in contact with Benny or Yost. My high school football staff and I will be visiting A2 from CA in early April to watch Spring and chalk with the coaches. I need an experienced persons visitor guide for the places to hang out.
John,
Try Columbus.
I can't believe you guys are even entertaining various answers to this question. The only correct and extremely obvious answer to the Maryann vs. Ginger question is: Kate Beckinsale.
John, don't listen to Whets, he is a buckeye.
The email for Yost and Benny is in code to the left
it is something at Gmail dot com
I think it is Michiganzone at Gmail dot com
You can email me, I can send you in the mail a local guide to get you around here. my email is posted a few comments up. Whatever you prefer. Good luck, it should be awesome, coach Rod seems really open and willing to share!
Hey John.
Yost can be reached through the email on the front page, should be in the left column below the block M.
There are also several regulars around who currently live in A2 who might be able to give you some good advice, as I believe Yost lives in CA (or did I read Utah somewhere now?).
Doh! Beaten to the punch.
Actually, I think he lives in Colorado. That Utah thing was the guy that emailed Yost that lives in Utah.
El Jeffe lives in Colorado? Man oh man. Every time he wears his Michigan gear in public he will be treated to a rehash of "the catch."
"John, don't listen to Whets, he is a buckeye."
*Sigh* Outed again.
catie.....
I'm a mathematician, I've sent you an email.
Oh, and as for the picture for the thread, each and every one of you would love to be able to throw up the Heisman pose with the actual trophy- Obama is just doing what any red-blooded American football fan would do.
Mike......I have not gotten an email!! I was just about to go to Craigslist and seek out a math tutor......
just to be sure
nursekatie99 at yahoo dot com
Don't forget the 99 :o) (my age...ha!!)
catie-
check now....sent it a couple minutes ago, might have taken a while to get through the firewall here at work.
I live in Colorado and wear my Michigan stuff everywhere along with Red Wings.
I moved here right after that season, and boy I never thought I'd hear the end of "the Catch." Then Avs/Wings in 1996 turned ugly and it was just about as bad as living in Buckeye territory, which is where I moved in 2003. Living in OHIO was much worse.
I moved back to Colorado and there is nothing said anymore to me on either the Michigan or Red Wing paraphernalia.
GO BLUE!
GO WINGS!
Catie ... I can help, after all I am sure it isn't rocket science.
Corey,
Catie is studying to be an aeronautical engineer, so technically, it is rocket science.
You guys rock! Now, if only I can get tutoring by email we will be ok!
Joshua!!!! ROFL.....that would be scary if that were true!
Damn! I was banking on the new guy not knowing I' m completely full of shit 98% of the time.
Corey, for future reference, sarcasm is just one more free service I offer.
I second Corey's assessment of Colorado. Down south, in Colorado Springs that is, the folks are too brainwashed by James Dobson and Ted Haggard to even care about sports.
Everywhere else, Coloradoans are actually ex-Californians, and unless their team is winning (which the Buffs and the Avholes don't do much anymore), the Californicators really aren't into the game.
The only grief I get is like when someone in scarlet and grey yelled "Fuck Michigan" at me (in the party store next to the Albertson's at the corner of Dublin and Austin Bluffs) on Saturday.
Whets asked "Ginger or MaryAnn?'
DUH! Both!
Was I the only one that caught that story about Pryor taunting the fans at his playoff game?
I think I like him as a buckeye.
I saw that. The pic of the kid dressed like Tressel was pretty hilarious, and by all accounts is was back and forth- you've gotta remember the kid's only 18. That having been said, I'm on record saying I'd prefer to land Shepard if possible. He's smaller, but he has better vision, is a better passer from what I've seen, will enroll in January and is tremendously well spoken when compared with Pryor. More of what I envision from a Wolverine qb.
Joshua -
Just so you know I am not a new timer, I just haven't had the time to commit to commenting anymore, plus who needs to hear from whets or srudof anymore than we already do!
My username use to be mgoblue94 with avatar of an ohio state plate with "BCKSTCH", but I can't get that one to work anymore.
FYI ... I am a rocket scientist (technically engineer)
Duly noted Corey. No disrespect meant, just providing my usual levity.
wow!
joshua definitely has the cred to help catie, particularly if he can levitate.....
