And Knowing is Half the Battle!!!
G.I. JOE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
President Andrew Jackson settled the dispute? Wasn't he aware that Florida owned Ohio?
actually...Jackson was the governor of the Florida territory at one point
Wow, that was pretty lame.
If I remember correctly, there was a battle. The Michigan Colonel was stabbed and the Michigan group was technically beat. In the end, Ohio ended up with Toledo and Michigan ended up with the UP. So in the long run, MIchigan won...
mikoyan-
I thought the losing side HAD TO TAKE Toledo? I have always been under the impression Michigan won that battle.
Here's a better summary:

At the time, Toledo was a major city...
I'll have to look this up. I'm still amazed that I never heard of the Battle of Blair Mountain in West Virginia coal mining lore. I saw it on the History Channel the other night during a 2-hour show on hillbillies. I wonder why the Ohio-MI border battle wasn't on that show about hillbillies - I ked, I keed.
Toledo is the only worthwhile city in Ohio. The rest of it is all populated by brainwashed OSU fans. Plus, all the deaf people of Toledo live by the airport so nobody complains about the noise problems.
The things you learn about your home state...
Ohio won the Toledo war.
Michigan had the right to the Toledo strip according to the Northwest Ordinance, but Michigan had to give it up in order to become a state. Ohio had more power/support and used it to get it's will. Plus, we inflicted the only casualty.
Now, if you want to use the "well we got the UP, so we won" argument...consider this: Ohio had no chance what so ever of ever getting the UP, so it not like you took it from us.
The fact is, Ohio took control of a piece of land that should have been Michigan's, and still has it to this day. As a result, Michigan got some land that Ohio was never going to get anyway.
If you want to claim victory in the Toledo War, claim it over Wisconsin...it's their (would have been) land that you took, not Ohio's.
The land was given to Michigan as a part of a compromise over the Toledo thing.
So, who ended up with the kids?
hmmm let's see....
TOLEDO: MudHens, Art Museum, Zoo, Glass, Auto Parts, Max Klinger
as opposed to the UP with more than 150 waterfalls, copper, timber, iron, The Soo Locks, Porcupine Mountains, Olympic training facilities, Escanaba in Da Moonlight
Yeah---sure as f sad about not getting Toledo......
like I said before...if you want to claim victory, calim it over Wisconsin. It's their land you got.
The UP?
Isn't that where all your redneck militia types hole up?
no--that would be Howell a mere 30 minutes from A2....
