Michigan Charity Chopper

Got the email below from MZone reader El Caliente...

Last night, while flipping through the channels, I happen to stop on TLC during an episode of American Choppers (a reality show where they follow this crazy family around as they build custom choppers). Turns out that one of the brothers in the family is a crazy Michigan fan (although I couldn't tell why from the show) and he decided to build a custom chopper for the Mott Children's Hospital (which will be auctioned off later).

Last night was part 1 where they show the design and mock up of the bike and next week they air part 2, the reveal. Anyway, after seeing the first part of the show I couldn't wait and googled the episode. Turns out the reveal took place during the UM/OSU game last year and the finished bike looks awesome.

Attached are the pictures in .pdf, sorry. See if you can find the full episodes on the web because Mike Teutel (the guy who loves Michigan) makes everyone wear Michigan gear throughout the episode and basically hypes up UofM the whole time which was a lot of fun. The auction takes place later this month so maybe you can get some extra publicity on the site and drive up the price.

Go Blue!
EC

According the Mott's site, the auction began February 7th and lasts until the 21st. So if you want a hell of a Michigan ride while also giving to a worthy cause, get those bids in ASAP.

Truthfully, it looks like they mailed this one in. I watch the show often, and I can see about 10 things used on other bikes they've made. It's a nice ride, without a doubt, but it isn't their best work. I'm pretty disappointed, actually

I wonder if the keys jingle when a tough patch of road is coming up.

Great... a Honda MaizeWing with umph. Just what the 'Down in Front" retirees need.

I'm with Killing on that one actually. I expected something spectacular.

you people are unreal. the bike kicks ass. what the hell is wrong with it. are you people who are bashing it chopper experts or something? give me a break. it's awesome.

Dabraylon it IS a really cool looking bike and they do awesome work. I KML's point was that it's very similar to a lot of bikes they've done. Sometimes they do otherworldly shit, and by their standards this is kind of a vanilla bike, that was what I was saying. If you watch the show at all you'd know what I'm talking about, so please take a moment to unseat your panties, they appear to be bunched.

that should read "I think KML's point..."

I haven't seen the episode but I have enjoyed the show and this is the first I've seen of this bike. However plain it may be it is still a one of a kind and I would love to have it. I'm sure that it's plainness probably comes from the fact that Mike Teutel (Sp?) was in charge of it and if you've ever seen the show he's not so great a thinker. I have watched the show months ago and made comments to my wife that he was wearing a Michigan scarf or shirt or hat etc. Good to see he finally represented.

Now for the winner of said bike I believe it should go to someone in the OH area. I would love to tool around on it and just watch the furious faces of those TO$U douchebags around me. Granted you could never park it anywhere but it would be hilariously fun to take to a bike night or something. Especially the large biker gathering they have yearly in Columbus.

I saw both episodes - my husband actually has it set to record, but he's also and MSU fan, so what I can say.

The bike looks great (the pics just don't do it justice) My favorite feature is the face-mask on the front headlight.

Also, Mikey makes a visit to U of M and the Big House during the episode. He visits with some kids from Mott. He also gets to meet Coach Carr - who made it very clear that he'd be bidding on the bike....sure hope Coach Carr ends up with it.

If you read my previous post, I said it was a vey nice machine. I would be very honored to ride/own it. But, as I said before, the design isn't anything special, and many of the logos look haphazardly thrown on, and there's too much(if there is such a thing) of the "winged helmet" on the bike. The rims aren't a one-off, besides the block "M". I, myself am a huge fan of simplicity, which it look like they are trying to acheive on this bike. Many times they tend to over-do bikes, putting too much stuuf or overdesigning. However, instead of simple, they got mix and match. I've seen much, much better work, even from Mikey. I really thought they would do a better job.

kml - I'm sure you're correct -

I'm a girl - and know nothing about bikes - I just thought it looked cool.

Gees, tought crowd. I didn't have high expectations for the "MaizeWing" comment, but I thought the "keys jingling" had some real promise. You smart types are tough to impress.

the best part of that scene, and one of my favorites of all time as it definitely describes some aspects of my life at certain times is when she refuses to get on the bike and Bruce Willis takes a big deep breath, sighs, and says,
"How was your day?"

LOVE Pulp Fiction

dabraylon,

I usu end up making really stupid comments that are uneccessarily long and very tangential, i need to start picking and choosing when i let others into my confused mind.

CKatie-
you and your family has been added to our prayer chain at church. you are in our thoughts and prayers

I think I would fall over laughing if I saw Carr riding this bike down the street. He does not seem like "THAT" kind of a guy. But who knows.

OOC- the keys comment was awesome. As a fellow hilarious jackass I can tell you that people quit commenting on your "funny-ness". They take it for granted after awhile. Bastards. It's tough, because I used to look to Mzone for validation too. But I found salvation and peace in Jager. Shots upon shots of Jager.

the best thing about this bike - if you hang your Michigan diploma from the handlebars, you get to park in handicapped parking!!!

;)

Watch out, sru -- if you're not careful, I'll have the handicapped mafia visit you.

srudoff said...

they're too busy preparing UM for the new spread option offense this upcoming season...

Sgt. Wolverine said...

Trust, me, sru; they're never too busy. Besides, visiting OSU fans always provides a nice self-esteem boost.
