Buckstache Sighting

Former Buckeye first round draft pick Alonzo "I smile for mugshots" Spellman was arrested Wednesday in Tulsa after leading police on a chase which ended with the cops having to fire pepper-spray bullets into his vehicle after he refused to exit.

According to the AP story linked above, Spellman was booked into the Tulsa County Jail on complaints of eluding, assault with a deadly weapon on a police officer, resisting arrest and driving without a license.

Police said the most damning evidence against the ex-Tosu great was was the full Beard & Buckstache he was sporting at the time of his arrest.

Speaking of refusing to open up for the cops. I read in the papers that a bunch of Winthrop athletes(small school in Rock Hill, SC) were arrested at a keg party over the weekend. Several had padlocked themselves into a small room in the apartment with the kegs when the cops showed up and kept partying and playing music. Nice!
Damn the man!

Guys - just so you know, Spellman has some mental problems that led directly to his retirement from the NFL. I can't remember if it was specifically bipolar disorder or what, but it was definitely something. Not to excuse criminal behavior - just a point. Keep up the good work.

I think smiling for mugshots a la Tom DeLay is the way to go. Nothing is more pathetic than the sad-sack looking mugshot.

What's up with Bucknuts, mental problems, and jail?

sucks that his bad personality is always the one that gets caught ;)

Spellman was diagnosed with severe bipolar disorder while playing with the Bears. This isn't his first run-in with the law, due to his condition.
