Here we are: the last game before THE last game. Which is exactly why you don't need Reverse Blog Psychology (RBP) to know this game has ugly loss written all over it.
Hell, the BTN weekend football show tonight spent a good chunk of time talking about if Hart and Henne should even play against the Badgers tomorrow since the if the Wolverines defeat Ohio State next week, we still would gain the Big Ten's automatic BCS berth.
Are you kidding me?! Is this the pros now, where the games often get less important at the end of the regular season?
Screw that. They both play. And as a result...
Hart reinjures his ankle/leg/thigh/INSERT BODY PART HERE. Henne's arm simply falls off at the shoulder. Mallett enters the game and sets an NCAA record by fumbling 9 consecutive center-QB exchanges.
RBP Prediction:
Team That Can Live With 9-3 If One Of The "9" Is Next Week - 14
Team Whose Coach is Named After an Eating Disorder - 31
UPDATE:
*Final Score*
Oh, I Remember That Defense - 21, Wisconsin - 37

Love it, keep up the good work as always Yost.
GO BLUE!
9 consecutive fumbles? I'd still take him over Kirby Freeman.
So I stood on a ridge and shunned religion, thinking the world was mine.....
Anyways, tomorrow has the potential of being ugly. Hopefully the Warriors of Ann Arbor aren't looking past the drunkards of Madison towards big showdown next week.
Anywho....since this RBP:
Linenkugels: 21
Leopold Brothers: 3
Just like Wisconsin's favorite son, Jeffrey Dahlmer, Wisky will slice and dice Michigan into perfectly proportioned refrigerator size pieces.
Wisky 24 -Losers of the West 17
Maize,
You are one dark SOB. Excellent.
Your writing inspires. You've inspired me to gnaw on that leftover pork loin calling out from the fridge.
You sick bast#%d!
Whets, After your comment I think you might be the sick bastard! ;o)
Oye, I already have chest pains.
You know? Between Maize's cannibalism, Wtrks' pork loin, & Beliemia's bulimia, there ought to be a good joke, but I'm too quesy to work on it.
The real problem w/ Michigan football, all season, has been the line on both sides of the ball. The DT's can't stop the run between the tackles. The right side of the O line can't stop the rush from the center out- in either pass protection or rushing. In short, we've got more holes than a Wisconsin swiss cheese.
Thanks to being bowl eligible, we can (& will) end the season w/ 5 losses.
Apparently, Wisky can run and pass at will. Not a good sign.
Your coaches need to start thinking like chiropractors.
"Our coaches" & "thinking" don't get used in the same sentence very often.
It may be time to put on the wrist band..."WWJD"
What Would Jim Do?
Whoa Nellie,
No sooner do I mention WWJD and "touchdown!"
A hint of resurrection?
We ALWAYS start slow.....I HATE THAT! I also hate F***ing Comcast, I lose my internet connection EVERY single Weekend!
For crying out loud!!! Do they realize that my heart can not take this drama? So the offense is gimpy, but what about the defense showing up?
I also don't like seeing the sidelines and what appears to be attitude on Mallett's part. I hope I am just imagining that.
Ok, deep breath, we can come out of half time as the REAL Michigan team.
Don't worry....Michigan is going to come back in the 2nd half.
A predictably ugly first half...does anyone else get immediately uncomfortable when they see Mallett behind center?
I think Hart needs to go in for pass protection at a minimum. Mallett will not win this game without him. -- need defense to get a turnover.
HART HART HART HART HART HART HART HART!!!!!!
Better yet....DEFENSE< DEFENSE>DEFENCE (Why didn't the defense show up this game?????)
Are we assuming Henne went out as a precautionary measure and not for a further aggravated shoulder?
Let's save ourselves the trouble of speculating about the 2nd half, next week, & the citrus bowl. Instead, we could devote the next 2 months to speculating about a new coach. Better use of time & less likely to have a disappointing result.
i think it's a great strategy we have to not even attempt to block field goals.
I've officially started watching the game with "mute" on.
I am with you SIC, I am not even sure I can watch this anymore. Wisky is running all over us (and passing) *sigh* I do think Henne out is precautionary, we are now playing to get by until we play tOSU.....poor choice in my opinion. But they haven't listened to me yet this season, so why should they bother now...;o)
No one can escape The Dahlmer effect. Michigan should know better than to go home with men from gay bars in Wisconsin.
LMAO@Maize!!! (GO MARIO!!!)
Aaaaaaiiiiieeeee!
Maize scares me. I mean "Lord of Darkness" Maize really scares me.
But then again, the way Michigan is playing, it seems the team enjoys getting dry fisted by Wisconsin.
Might want to bring Cone in. He's the last virgin on the team.
If the DEFENSE can show up for the rest of this game, we MAY just......ok, I am not saying it out loud...............DEFENSE< DEFENSE< DEFENSE.
(Maize, you are cracking me up, and seriously making me wonder if I would ever want to meet you in person...LOL)
If anyone needs me, I'll be in the corner frozen in the fetal position stewing in my own excrement; babbling incoherently "maize is the anti-Christ."
i think you can't use "freshman" qb as an excuse anymore...
Go for it on 4th and 20? at the 5 yard line? HOLY SHIT!!!
Katie,
By definition, that term is a contradiction. However, I understand your passion.
Unbelievable. We knew there was a chance of a gimpy offense (and I agree, hopefully Mallett practiced as if he was playing, but it sure as hell did not look like it) But for the defense to NOT show up.....just totally not show up....that is just unbelievable.
If this is who is going to show up next week....it is going to be truly painful.
Whets, maybe FUCKING STUPID CALL would be less of a contradiction ;o)
Katie,
I think you nailed it.
Katie,
Trust me- 60 days from now we'll wish we'd had turned this season off last week.
As I stand on deck, dressed in black tie, listening to the strings play "Nearer My God to Thee" while the sea water steadily rises, a few, lasting fleeting thoughts jump to mind:
Our 8 game winning streak was 1 part determination on our part, 3 parts lousy opponents;
Lloyd will never really adjust his playbook to the personnel @ hand- the Illinois game was an alcohol induced mirage;
Not only is our "scheme" coaching poor, our player development is worse- in 4 years no one has taught Crable to stop hitting QBs in the head; and
Next week is going to be more of the same- we can't bring ourselves to do anything different in big games. Tosu is good, but hardly an unstoppable juggernaut, but we shall play w/ the same players & formations as we have the last 11. They will make adjustments, we wont- you can always out coach Lloyd.
Finally, wetrock- not sure about "holy shit" pretty some knight on the Third Crusade found some of Christ's droppings and had them declared a "relic".
Maybe the Falcons will let Bobby Petrino out of his K after their dismal season & he'll want to come back to college?
Less of a miracle than praying we'll win either of our last two games.
SIC, I do believe you have a very good point, I just really wanted to believe differently.
Notice that the RBP score is almost exactly what the final score is
And,
Is it just me, or does it seem like Mario and Crable were totally playing for draft position? I just got the feeling they wanted to be "noticed" to improve their draft bid. I am pretty sure it backfired if that is what they were trying to do.
It isn't too late.....I could still sell my tOSU ticket and make a little cash, rather than suffer for 4 hours next week. (A little RBP early??)
Katie,
After 7 yrs of this- and today's loss was just everyone in '05 & 90% of the others since 2000, I can't bring myself to hope.
Please think of still goin to the game/giving your tick to one of your boys, etc. The last humilation we can hope to avoid is having the Faithful give up on next week to the point of having 30,000 red jerseys in the stands, ala Nebraska-ND during Davies' last years.
Listening to Mussburger talk for 3 hrs about the "great" showing of suckeye fans on the road will be much worse than watching it live.
All is lost, save honor.
"Finally, wetrock- not sure about "holy shit" pretty some knight on the Third Crusade found some of Christ's droppings and had them declared a "relic"."
SiC,
No. Don't think so: a few problems with physics and time.
Please don't tell me a 10 page movie review of Monty Python and the Holy Grail secures a history degree at UofM.
Now for something completely different...
Revisionism: History the Way You Like It!
I refuse to give up hope for next week - this year has been so crazy.
But, I also won't be losing sleep over the game like I did last year.
Go Blue !!!
Katie -- go to the game. I'm hoping it's like the early 90's when Michigan beat tOSU when they shouldn't have. Maybe Hart will pull a Biakabatuka and get 300. Or, more likely, they'll lose by 20.
My Dad tried to warn me about all this when he told me 30 years ago that "they never fail to disappoint." Except for 1997, that's been true. I don't expect a National Championship every year, but come on. Maybe Petrino will have a Saban-like revelation. Or maybe Brian Kelly would take the job.
Stick a fork in me. I'm done.
"Physics & time"? What has science got to do w/ "faith"?
Good thing you weren't around in the 11th century! You'd be on a rack in front of some Dominican friar if you'd tried to argue facts in the face of medievel church doctrine (ask "evil" Maize- have a feeling he might have been there in a past demonic life).
SiC,
Too funny. At least you haven't lost your sense of humor today.
Thanks. Thinking of conducting my own crusade to find St. Paul's holy tackling dummy in time for our D line to practice w/ it before Saturday. May even pull the "true cross" out to have the cheerleaders carry out "before" the team as they run under the "holy ufer" mgoblue banner to make us invincible against the pagan host.
Sadly, we have about as much of a chance as the children's crusade did of capturing the holy land.
Sigh- you stay classy, san diego!
What is really terrible is watching Manningham and Mallett playing little games with each other.
Mallett better get a lot smarter in the off season, because it gets a bit tiresome watching him give up 7 or 14 points a game through key turnovers.
Ugh.
Carr partially righted the ship, but offensive crew is mutinying among themselves. Sheesh. If he isn't gone at the end of the year, I hope we puts those guys in line.
Have no fear guys, I will go (with the hope that I am there to watch them beat tOSU) and if there ever was a reason that I could not go to ANY game, my ticket would NEVER go to a fan of the opposing team.Ever.
As painful as it is at times, you can't take the blue and maize out of me. I still love that they stood tall the last 8 games after the horror. Here is hoping they were saving something for tOSU. GO BLUE!
Will do.
I have the voice that could make a wolverine purr.
atta girl, Katie.
let's all go down w/ the sinking ship together!
Katie if you're really not going I need a ticket!!!
Sorry Winter, I know someone who is selling one for $250 (was hoping to get one for my brother, but I can't afford that!)
It is rather enjoyable to watch Illinois lead tOSU though! Here is hoping that Illinois wins!
Watched air force thump nd. Before anyone complains about mallet, spend some time watching clausen. We could have done worse!
SIC, I was thinking that during the game when the announcer said Mallett was the #2 high school QB last year and Clausen was #1.
What's the over/under on flaming couches in C-bus right now?
Ron Zook, coaching genius? ND loses to 2 acadamies for 1st time since 1944?
Maybe Lloyd will watch this game film & make adjustments?
Nah. Let's not get THAT crazy.
Illinois 28, Ohio State 21. tOSU lost to the team that lost to the team that lost to App State. Ya know, the Wisconsin loss doesn't quite sting anymore!
Of course, this makes next week all the more difficult, tOSU now wants to win the big ten, that is all they have left! (9th time this season that a top 5 team has lost to a non-ranked team this year, interesting stat!)
Sorry Katie- marshal law is being enforced. National guard moving in, troops in the streets trying to regain control.
Meanwhile, the upstairs has fallen silent (I'm in the basement). I'm afraid to go upstairs & face the wife. Hopefully the troops will check for me in the rec room.
Dear Michigan,
You're Welcome
Thank god for OSU losing, cause not only does that mean no national championship for the buckeyes, but also cause that we take more of the limelight of the wolverines going into the big game. The one thing that does suck about the two losses today is that it makes the Big 10 look really bad. The game next sat. was shaping up to be a huge huge game. But, now for everyone else outside Michigan and Ohio, the game is really meaningless. Big loss for the conference today.
SIC, maybe you and the wifey could comfort each other over the losses? This could turn in your favor.......jump on the opportunity! Undercover, sneak out and get some roses, drop rose petals in a trail to the bedroom......;o) (it would work for me, but then, pretty much anything would work for me...LMAO!)
Not so fast my friend,
The big game next week still matters to another team in the Big Ten. I know us down here in Chambana are pulling for a Big Blue win, because in case you hadn't noticed, that makes us second in the conference.
How weird does that sound?
Katie,
You are a verbal van Gough. You could take the sting out of a bee.
*Blush* Thanks Whets ;o)
It appears that SIC used my idea, he is now where to be found now! GO SIC!
I'm coming to A2 next weekend for The Game.. who wants to commiserate with me?
Paulie B,
Right here. Even after we lost, I was - believe it or not - pulling for OSU so The Game didn't lose all it's luster. But, alas, I'm afraid outside of A2 and C-bus, we both just tumbled off the national stage.
as I was pulling for Michigan.. oh well, can't have all the bells and whistles every year.
consider this me buying you a beer (in the blog world)
Ouch, this hurts
http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/columns/story?columnist=forde_pat&id=3104000&sportCat=ncf
A big hit for the conference? In the SEC, the same thing shows us how good they all are. Funny how the double standard works.
My thoughts exactly J. And what about the fact that we beat Illinois, that doesn't play here? What about the fact that Wisky led tOSU? The Big Ten "MAY" be on the weak side right now, but the SEC is way over rated.
my .02. It just doesn't hurt as bad now. It bugged me earlier, bad during the game. I even thought for a bit we'd become some new fangled "comeback cardiac kids" if we'd secure the "W" but alas, defeat. Still, it just doesn't hurt as bad now that tOSU ate shit out of their own shoe today.
Few thoughts:
Hey, let's just face it. Michigan is just not that good this year. The Big Ten is even worse.
Mario Manningham, though talanted, is not a team player.
Mallett will learn more from this game than any in his Michigan career. Mallett has more natural talent than Henne.
Without Hart, the team is mediocre.
I happen to like Carr. If he has a fault it's not psychologically getting his players ready for games like this. It's especially true in the beginning of seasons and on the road. The defense wasn't ready to play.
That's the last "jerk" play I can stand from Crable. He's a bonafide jerk - The second call was bull, however.
Michigan's gonna win next Saturday and lose in the Bowl.
ok, I'm sorry I just have say that this was a game the players and staff didn't care about. Even if we'd won today, there's no way we go to the BCS without winning next week. Holding Hart and Henne out, a clear signal Carr didn't care, and sadly a signal to the rest of our players as well. Maybe I'm just a homer, but I didn't see a team that is that bad, I saw a team that went through the motions.
Pat Forde at ESPN is Douchebag.
[end homer rant]
Well, I guess it is tough to win on the road when you lose your 4 year starter QB and Heisman calibre running back.
Lots of Mich fans were at the game today.
Didn't see the game on TV but in person the Wolverines looked very flat and emotionless.
Sandwich game between tough Mich St win and tO$U?
Good luck next week.
Why is it when the Big 10 loses to each other it's bad but when the SEC loses to each other it's a sign of just how tough their conference is?
