Must mention this...

Comedy bent or not, we would be remiss in not mentioning a problem swirling around the eligibility of a U-M defensive back.

Apparently, Michigan misinterpreted Big Ten freshman-eligibility rules with regards to DB Artis Chambers, who played on special teams in U-M's first four games. As a result, he will not play the rest of the year yet will be allowed to practice as this is not an NCAA violation, rather a league issue. Athletic Director Bill Martin said the issue was the fault of the department and not head coach Lloyd Carr.

But...

There is talk (as discussed in the Detroit News link above) that Michigan may have to forfeit the Penn State game. However, so little concrete info is known at this point, it's hard to say much more right now. But more to come.

Just wondering... this guy has played in all 4 of our games... can we forfeit the losses too?

Might make us look better...

Ugh, I hope you guys don't have to forfeit our game (Penn State). I don't want that win in that manner.

The perfect storm continues to gather strength.

Non-issue, trivial incident, no bad faith involved. Will be shocked if there's any sanction.

Also, there's no "perfect storm," or any "storm" involving this program. Gimme a break.

crimescribbles,

Are you kidding? This is the perfect scenario for you boys to beat my team. All UM's implosions lead the world to believe you are ka-put. tOSU's rise in the polls out of obscurity makes them the golden ones. A perfect set-up for the huge upset.

I remember as a kid just knowing the favored team in the UM/tOSU was going to lose. You could bet on it. It feels like that again.

Meh, I thought you were playing the "Lloyd as Steve Fisher" angle.

All that happened here was Michigan misconstruing a Big 10 (not NCAA) rule: freshman's winter grades were below standard; freshman takes summer classes and meets the standard; Michigan identifies the problem and self-reports to the Big 10. The only reason forfeit is on the table is because it literally exists as a penalty that the Big 10 can impose on a program.

no way they make you forfeit a game - has that ever happened in-season?

difference is that this is a "conference" issue, not NCAA. NCAA would take 6-10 months just to think about it.

conference is a lot quicker and a lot more political. far more of a crap shoot.

Ok, just my little take, the Big Ten OWES Michigan for not picking us in the Rose Bowl and sending Tosu back in the 70's... You better believe that will be a part of it. Now, Michigan has a better chance to run the table and make it to a BCS game than does PSU...that being said, why give Michigan another loss and SCREW the conference out of a HUGE BCS PAYDAY? Anybody? Or am I still crazy?
