Jim Leavitt: The Angriest Coach Man in America

Was watching the Rutgers-USF game last night and I'm mildly surprised that South Florida coach Jim Leavitt's head didn't simply explode. Holy shit, is that an angry, angry man.

Each time they cut to him on the sidelines, he was sporting one of three expressions - pissed, really pissed and really fucking pissed.

As a side note...

Another start to the college football weekend, another top team going down to defeat. God help me, I do love it so.

Really fucking pissed the entire second half. LOL Yost!!

Once Schiano finally let Ray Rice take over the game, it was over. I said this on another thread already, but he reminds me of Mike Hart, only with more speed.

USF's offense let a lot of points get away - just like against Auburn.

Who are the Buckeyes playing Saturday? With this season going the way it's going, they've got to be nervous.

I love the quote from Patton....

Shame to see USF go down though because the bobbleheads seemed to hate them so much. almost seemed like, how dare these folks go undefeated.....

Mikoyan,

Was wondering if anybody would get that.

That is one my favorite movies....

Oh well, hopefully the good guys will down the Illini.

I just got back to Manhattan from PiscataWayTheChristOverThere. Extricating myself from Rutgers involved the worst clusterf*ck I've ever had to endure.

It was worth it for a game like that. But only just.

Re: Ray Rice. During the game, I thought to myself, "He's like Mike Hart, but without quite as much 'magic'". Ten seconds later, he fumbled with his team up three and four minutes to go in the game. That's not magical either.

Honestly, I think he was just tired. He didn't have the moves late in the game that he'd had earlier and between each snap, he had his hands on his knees in the huddle.

BiB,
they're at home against MSU (with former defensive coordinator Dantonio at the helm). I don't want to say "Woody & Bo" (cuz that's sacreligeous, and MSU is no UM, yet), but the game could be close, b/c Dantonio is so familiar with the system. Shit, they played us tough when he was at Cinci.

I actually though Jim was auditioning for a Bill Cower Look-A-Like contest...

When Rutgers is bringing 7-8 guys for pressure the entire second half, how can Grothe not do some rollouts to get away from the pressure, 5 step drops were stupid.

AND...you cannot CANNOT take 3 sacks with less than 2 minutes left.

wingrg,

not so fast my friend (yeah, i quoted corso). In 2002, it was Rick Minter that was the coach of cincinnati that you guys luckily escaped with a win. Remember, will allen makes a key INT in the end zone late in the game that keeps UC from going ahead and pretty much winning the game. it kept your nat'l championship alive. All Dantonio did was roll over at the 'shoe in 2004 in a good ole OSU vs "Insert Ohio Team Here" game.

If I was OSU, i would worry about '98 and keep cooper 100 miles away from columbus on saturday. at least dantonio is no nick saban...yet

John said...

and how does that UC win at Rutgers look now? will yost issue a public apology to the university of cincinnati?

WingRG said...

John,

i thought the '04 game was pretty close, but maybe i'm wrong (obviously i knew Dantonio wasn't there in '02). As for '98, Tressel keeps reminding his players about that, so hopefully there'll be no repeat of that.
I have to admit, UC over Rutgers does look more impressive today, than it did yesterday. Shit, Rutgers had 3 turnovers and still won last nite. I'm all for Ohio teams being good (as long as they don't beat my alma mater)

I'm liking that the list of unbeaten pretenders lost a member last night. Hopefully more will happen this weekend and we can again resume logical talk of who will be in the MNC game.

John said...

wingrg,

the '04 game was close for a half I guess, but so was akron/OSU. how great would it be if UC becomes legit and an OSU/UC in state rivalry develops on a yearly basis like UM/MSU. Will never happen, but would be great for ohio football. only way i see this happening is if UC joins the big 10 but they aren't even on the radar right now, all talk surrounds PITT and ugh, Iowa State

WingRG said...

John,
i'm all for an OSU/UC rivalry. As for Pitt and ISU joining B10, my opinion is that if we can't have ND, we don't really *need* to expand. I think that when UC becomes good, it will help Big East's credibility tremendously. So far, lots of Cinderella's have come out of the Big East, but some have been very inconsistent.
How else do you explain beating Auburn and WVU, and losing to Rutgers?

Mikoyan said...

I think the BCS talked to the refs....:)

Why is South Florida a pretender and Oklahoma or LSU aren't? The polls shouldn't be based on performances from past years. It will be interesting how far South Florida falls given they lost by a field goal on the road. I bet they fall further than USC did when they lost against a 41 point underdog.

Personally, they should rename it the BPS for Bowl Popularity Series. Championship implies something that is played for which it is somewhat but it is still based on lots of folks opinions.

His lips were actually bright blurple by the end of the game. It was kind of scary, like watching an accident about to happen, you don't know if you should look away or break out the candy and settle in.

i just saw a clip of the game; that coach is an embarrassment- carrying on worse than a toddler.

I agree with snead, it's not a pretty sight.

Yost said...

Mik,

So true re: how far USF falls vs. how far USC fell for a MUCH worse loss.

The problem is, now that USF has lost, all the upsets have officially cancelled each other out, and we're again going to be stuck with some variation of an OSU/OU/LSU national title game.

Lame.
