Uh, is he a football coach or on the board of a Fortune 500 company?

Former N.C. State coach Chuck Amato is returning to Florida State to join the new and improved staff of Bobby Bowden. Amato previously spent 18 years at FSU under Bowden during the 80s and 90s.

My favorite part of this story: his title. Amato joins the Seminoles as its executive head coach and linebackers coach.

Not being familiar with the management structure of college football boardrooms now that D-1 football coaches are paid more than the CEO of AT&T, I'm confused: is the Executive Head Coach title one step up from Senior Vice President of Head Coaching and Chief Operating Coach? Or is it a step down from Managing Director of Gridion Operations and a lateral move from Deputy General Counsel of Football

Yost, you've obviously been reading too much eBay. You're a cynic.

More importantly, how does Mickey Andrews feel about this? Mickey's been in Tallahassee with Bobby the whole time (dadgummit). And unlike his offensive counterparts, he's been a consistent performer.

When is someone going to stop giving a fraud like Amato one grandiose position after another?

The answer is probably this: someone like Mickey just wants to win football games and do his best job. Someone like Chuck craves the titles and the attention. You're right, this is getting a lot like the corporate world!

I guess Chuckie clicking the heals together of those ugly ass red shoes he wore at NC State finally paid off..."There's no place like home, there's no place like home..." (coming out of dream sequence music)

Bobby Bowden: Chuckie, say something, you got knocked out and haven't woken up in almost 7 seven years.

Chuckie: Is that you Papa? Wow, I had a crazy dream. I dreamed I left here. I took a position at NC State (groans from all around Chuckie's bed), I dreamed I was a head football coach (groans turn to cackles).

Bobby: That's a good 'un Chuckie. Hoo Hoo, you a head coach!

Chuckie: No it was real. You were there, I dreamed I beat you at Doak Campbell (cackles turn to hysterics), you were there Mickey, too, you were the scarecrow.

Mickey: Oh, you're too much Chuckie. Glad your back and OK.

Chuckie: No, I'm serious, I was a real head coach!

Bobby: OK, Chuckie, you've been through quite a bit. Tell you what, I'll make a special coaching spot just for you. How about, "Executive Head Coach".

Chuckie: Oh wow, gee! Gosh, Executive Head Coach, can I wear a whistle?
Bobby (getting tired and forgeting most of the conversation by now): What, a whistle? Well dadgummitt, waer a whistle if you want, but you better have those linebackers ready for the Spring game... wear a whistle... I swear, these kids these days... the internet and eBay has dun ruint their minds.

Re: title

The two are not mutually exclusive, particularly when you consider the F$U football team's payroll...

...and the coaches and staff don't get paid too poorly either.
