This is EXACTLY what we're talking about

MZone readers PL and KG sent us this t-shirt design which is floating around Ohio these days...

Note the Michigan dig at the bottom. So let me get this straight...

- Their team is #1 in all the land
- They're undefeated
- Their QB won the Heisman
- They're going to the National Championship game

Yet they still have to bash Michigan?

Imagine if Michigan were playing Florida in the title game. Do you really think any U-M NC gear would include a mention of Ohio State? Fat chance. Who would give a shit?

So why is the mentality around Columbus such that Buckeye fans can't simply enjoy their success and cheer their team on? Almost seems they're more excited that Michigan lost than the fact that their team won. Which is probably why one hears more cries of "Fuck Michigan!" rather than "Go Bucks!" outside the 'Shoe during The Game.

Pathetic...but not surprising.

P.S. To any Buckeye fan tempted to respond to this post on a Michigan site, think long and hard about leaving a comment lest you further prove this point.

P.P.S. And is the picture above supposed to be Tressel? Damn, that is some shitty artwork. It looks more like Benny's friend's dad. And he's African-American.

I will personally give $10 to any person who can actually find, photograph, and wear a shirt with that design on it.

P.S. Yost, why can't we respond to the post? Just because we're Buckeye fans? We're still readers - just because we don't cheer for Michigan doesn't mean we shouldn't be allowed to read a Michigan blog. It's hilarious, that's why we read it.

P.P.S. The shirt design sucks hardcore ass. Just because some stupid schmuck who doesn't like Michigan designed it doesn't mean OSU NC gear all claims superiority over Michigan. Ohio State's team did a pretty decent job of that.

Yost said...

E,

Not talking to you re: responding. I'm talking to some others who respond with a barrage of "Fuck Michigans!" I for one always appreciate your comments.

And you're 100% right - you guys did do a great job of proving who is the better team on the field. End of story. That's why I'm so puzzled by designs like this. Doesn't 5-1 and a possible 2nd NC say it all?

P.S. How'd the Slav Languages test go?

Trevor Pitt said...

I'm not actually defending the design, because I think it's crap too. And Eric is right, no one's going to wear that on a shirt, it's just what someone wrote in the subject line of their original email (ie: New BCS Shirt). I think the "Michigan still sucks, mate" is a little much...but if the 'artist' would've left it at "Dear Michigan...etc. etc." that would've been a fun jab at our rival.

NCAA football isn't the only place this happens. Why did the Steelers chant "We-Dey" in a celebratory parade after they won the Super Bowl? Because the Bengals are their fiercest rivals and they wanted to rub it in their faces (and yes, that pissed me off, but it also added to the importance of this year's games). Same goes for the Buckeyes & Wolverines. For years Michigan owned OSU's ass, I had to listen to loads of players & fans in Michigan deny the rivalry and say "Ohio State's not our rival, Michigan State is." What a bunch of bunk. But that was Michigan's way of getting under OSU fans' skin. Now the shoe's on the other foot, so we've gotta rub it in whenever possible. Because who knows when this high might end in Columbus. Besides, if Michigan was indeed in the NC game, you wouldn't completely let up on your posts that poke fun at the Buckeyes, would you? And I, as a Buckeye fan, wouldn't expect anything less from you guys. In fact, I'd be disappointed.

And I'd also like to say that I'd never throw a "Fuck Michigan" your way, or that I'd even want to screw anything from Michigan...okay, I'll make some exceptions, but only if the Michigan Cheerleaders aren't wearing those Soccer Mom outfits.

jj said...

The weather in Arizona is great? What kind of retarded dig is that?

lane said...

Yost,

OSU fans respond, in part, with that kind of jab (meaning on the t-shirt, not the Fuck Michigan stuff you refer to) because Michigan fans/players/coaches were whining about getting a rematch after losing handily (as you posted after The Game). Much was said about what would happen on a neutral field. Hell, Mike Hart himself said he "guarantees" things would turn out different. When people talk shit about what would happen if they played again after losing and giving up 500 fuckin yards, its not hard to wonder why OSU fans might take a little jab at Michigan football.

Anonymous said...

I wouldn't worry about what is going on in Columbus so much.

Eric S. said...

Anon 3:51 AM - Good call.

Yost - I bent it over and made it my prison bitch. 98% overall in the class. Thanks for asking.

jeremy said...

Why is this a big deal? Turn the tables, and I would love to take a jab at OSU like that. We just need to, y'know, fucking beat them first. Please?

I see it as more of a hat tip than an obsession. Like, yeah, the National Championship would just be icing on the cake, as we all know the UM game is more important. That's the highest form of respect I think we should expect from our mulleted foes.

Eric S. said...

Jeremy,

Your comment reminded me of Beano "I Love ND, Army, and Navy" Cook from ESPN. He said something like "The national championship always runs through Notre Dame". Well, in our case, you can't win a NC without beating Michigan first. So take it as a compliment, we think about you guys 365 days a year. That's why it's a great rivalry.

Anonymous said...

i would love to see a similar michigan shirt that took a little dig at ohio state. you cant find them and when you do its just an ohio state version with the colors and names switched. come on UM fans, get original and make something for us to wear. but like someone said we have to win first.

Anonymous said...

Its odd in the fact the majority of OSU fans want nothing more than Michigan to shove it up USC's arses in the Rose. The few that want Michigan to lose at all costs are just idiots that still live in the Mom's trailor.

One of the strangest things about college football is how you have your conference teams you want to beat so bad all year. Then once you get to the bowls, you become their biggest fans...I will be rooting on every Big Ten team regardless...

Anonymous said...

Anon 6:15,

Rooting for the conference thing seems to be pretty much the norm for the BigTen, and I'd have it no other way.

Especially against the sec.

Anonymous said...

Why do you insist on wondering why Ohio State fans love to cheer against Michigan when your own blog is constantly posting fun towards Ohio State. You have a whole section dedicated to great posts against Ohio State.

Its a rivalry. Teams hate each other all year long. Ohio State fans love their Buckeyes but hate Michigan year round. Figure it out. Thats how a rivalry works.

Anonymous said...

And that is exactly why Michigan has beat OSU once in 5 years. We care about beating you. ND is not a rival game. Stop crying about how we dog on you guys nonstop, man up and beat us for once.

KDM said...

This is the same school that put the score of the Michigan game on it's National Championship ring in 2002. You expect something different?

IC said...

If I was a Buckeye, I don't think I'd be comparing my coach to Steve Irwin. I'm pretty sure stingray barbs can penetrate even the scarletest of sweater vests.

Anonymous said...

Mate?

mattathias said...

Real men don't wear sweatervests. And we should all boycott Gatorade.

Anonymous said...

Yes, thank you for pointing out in what? your fourth thread on this topic that OSU is obsessed with Michigan. By making every other post about how obsessed WE are with YOU, our fanbase, or our team. By selling anti-Buckeyes T-shirts off your main page. By making a list of your best Ohio State threads you have shown without a doubt that only those crazy Buckeye's care about this rivalry.

Anonymous said...

you call it "obsession" and "pathetic", we call it "focus". Focus is generally a good thing.

Anonymous said...

A good question would be: Who will Michigan fans be rooting for in the BCS Championship game?

1) On one hand, you would be rooting for OSU due to the Big Ten ties and the fact you would not want to see Urban Myer and his whining paying off with a national championship. I could see wanting Florida to get what's coming to them.

2) On the other, a Florida win and a big win by Michigan could result in a split National title.

What say you, Michigan fans?

T-bagg said...

Anon 8:09

It won't be a split title no matter what. So of course we'll be going with our Big 10 loyalty & anti-politicing choice: tOSU

Anonymous said...

Even if Ohio State lost to Florida the pollsters would not give a split title to Michigan. The pollsters have already spoken. They have said that Michigan had its shot at the title and failed. Why on earth would they give a title to Michigan? All the media would say is that the Big Ten was way overrated and that the SEC was by far the best conference.

Michigan's only option is to destroy USC and hope Ohio State destroys Florida so the pollsters will have to eat crow.

GO BLUE, and (unfortunately) go bucks

js said...

Wow, you guys were so focused that you went 2-8-1 in the glory years.

It's so funny that the "fanbase" is taking credit for the fact that OSU has gone 5-1 in the last six years. Are you saying that you didn't root hard enough in the 11 years before that? I kinda feel bad for Tressel and the team.

Oh_Yeah said...

OK..that shirt is about the dorkiest thing yet. Who would wear that? I have a shirt that says "All I want for Christmas is a Natioal Championship". Guess what. Not a word about Michigan on it. Just because someone with limited artistic skill and too much time on their hand made something, doesn't mean it will be recognized by any Ohio State fans. But hey, it made it to your front page, so I guess you can give him props.

By the way, exactly how much time a day do you spend searhing for Ohio State stuff on the web???

oh_yeah said...

Yikes. Typos!

And to js who said "I kinda feel bad for Tressel and the team." You go right on ahead and feel sorry for us. As for the "Glory Years"....I think they have just begun!

"Lighten up Francis!"

Let's see did the Beach Boys right a song called I wish they all could be Arizona girls?? No I think it was California girls, which is where all of the Michigan fans will be yeah baby!!!

Anonymous said...

Wow. Are all UM fans that witty?

Anonymous said...

I am a Buckeye fan, and I will post only because you are the biggest pussy in the history of the world. Its sport. Its not life or death. Ooh, Michigan sucks! Did I just ruin your day?

Grow a sack.

Yost said...

Ruin my day? Don't flatter yourself. Actually, as a Buckeye fan trolling a Michigan site leaving such a comment, you simply help prove the point.

Thanks.

Anonymous said...

Yost,
As a tried and true Buckeye fan, there's only one thing you need to understand about the OSU-UM rivalry: Ohio State could go 1-11 for the year. But if that one win came at the expense of the Wolverines, 99.9% of Ohio State fans would consider the season a success. The fact that we get an opportunity to play for the NC is icing on the cake.
(But that shirt looks like my 4-yr old nephew made it. I'm fairly certain the Irwin family wouldn't endorse it.)

Anonymous said...

Take it easy, Yost. Buckeyes fans are on here because they enjoy your posts and humor. That t-shirt, while very lame as another poster pointed, was really not that big of deal. Its something that goes on with a rivalry, especially when a game is played with a title berth on the line.

Anonymous said...

"On the other, a Florida win and a big win by Michigan could result in a split National title".

What are you on crack?

Yost said...

Totally agree it's not a big deal. That's not the point of the post. It's that I - and I think a lot of Michigan fans - really can't understand why Michigan would even be mentioned on an Ohio St NC tee. I defy anybody to show me a UF NC shirt that takes a poke at FSU or Tennessee or anybody besides the Bucks on it. I'm guessing you won't find it b/c they don't do it.

And don't say their SEC rivalries or FSU game isn't as intense as M/OSU in their eyes. So why does OSU do it when others don't?

Anonymous said...

Is there a sequel version of the shirt with a stingray barb in Tressel's chest?

Anonymous said...

I particularly relish the recent success of OSU against you boys remembering all the shitheads in Ann Arbor (including UM players) who got so cocky with UM's success in the 1990's to the point of bragging that The Game wasn't really their big rivalry...it was MSU....although I'm beginning to think maybe they were actually prophetically correct as the level of play between the Spartans and Wolverines appears much closer to parity.

Anonymous said...

anon 1:33. har har. 5-1 is half of 10-2. you guys have a ways to go.

Anonymous said...

Yost,

Apparently to Ohio State Buckeye fans the term obsession correlates with rivalry.

Anonymous said...

Why won't Ohio State leave us alone so we can nurse our wounds and broken hearts, and commiserate in peace with fellow Wolverine fans?

TitleIX said...

Sorry Yost...but the 'weather here in Arizona' part is kinda funny....

and if you go to the following web site: http://www.collegegear.com/sf/stores/1072/g-OH1006.shtml
you can order your "Greatest Victory" T-shirt from the $uckeye $tore....
Kinda like I have my shirt from Moe's celebrating the 100th game.......

It's the Best Damned Rivalry In The Land and we pick on each other like older stronger siblings would to their little punk brother (or sister).
Unfortunately, for these recent years---they are Peyton and we are Eli (like that ESPN ad when Archie looks back to tell 'em to knock it off)

I'm all for clever barbs (stingray reference intended)from C-bus. But they can definitely keep the profanity and projectile objects.

Mikey said...

tOSU is like Wes Mantooth and UM is Ron Burgundy. We hate you, but respect you so much... Maybe that's just me, because I live in California.

Anonymous said...

I am STILL yet to visit an Ohio State blog. Call me crazy.

The Devil said...

Did anyone notice the Marijuana leaf on the shirt? Or am I just 'That High' right now?

Anonymous said...

Yost, OSU-Michigan is a far bigger rivalry than FSU-UF. Their fan rivalry is nothing compared to this. That is why there is an Ohio State shirt taking a shot at Michigan.

It matters much more to us, well at least to Ohio State fans. 2-10 over Cooper's reign was totally agonizing. Perhaps you underestimate football in the state of Ohio, and what Ohio State means to its fans.

Anonymous said...

The shirt is much more creative than the buckstache t-shirt. I am a proud owner of said shirt and will wear it with pride while I am in Glendale for the game. You guys can worry about our t-shirts while you are in Pasadena playing for "pride".

Yost said...

Anon,

Oh, yeah, much more creative. You're so right.

Anonymous said...

Anon 11:50 - You are correct. Ohio State means everything to Ohio. I lived in Oxford,Ohio, for four years. You're correct: Ohio State football, along with punching the clown in the public library, is about as good as life gets. I was lucky: I managed to tunnel under the state line and escape. but so many others were left behind....

Anonymous said...

Anon 12:01,

Yeah, I'm sure ou really had it rough at J. Crew U.

Anonymous said...

Anon 12:01:
Yes, I'm assuming it was a lot less rough than life at Buckeye High.

Anonymous said...

I understand where you're coming from. It's the same thing with Texas - Oklahoma. OU fans put upside down Longhorn emblems on their trucks and flash the 'Horns down sign at *every* game. They always seem to be more anti-Texas than pro-OU. Texas couldn't care less about them except during the week of the Red River Shootout.

js said...

Yeah, sure. That claim will be more credible if I don't have to see the "Beat OU" and "O Who" t-shirts and signs everyday.
