Two-Minute Drill: "The Game" Edition

* With his beloved Texas Lornhorns now out of the national title hunt, our good pal Scott over at DallasSportsPowerhouse and some other UT folks have now thrown their support behind the maize and blue...

* The MZone gets a nice mention on WriteOnSports.

* While the public might get the impression Lloyd Carr is just an always-serious ol' football coach, this Free Press article points out nothing could be further from the truth.

* Want to play the "what if..." game? Check out where teams would end up in the BCS based on various results with the Colley Matrix. (HT: AHS)

* Liberty Mutual has announced its 10 finalists for Coach of the Year and Michigan's Lloyd Carr is among them. Show your support for the man who has answered all his critics by leading Michigan to the bring of the BCS title game by voting early and often! (HT: AS)

* "There will probably be some rioting...but I don't think it will be too bad." That quote is from an OSU student interviewed in this clip on WBNS in Columbus. Gee, I feel so much safer now going to the game Saturday. (HT: DW)

* Even iTunes is getting into the spirit of the rivalry. For $5.99 you can buy the "Season Pass" which gets you the 1973, 1997, and 2002 games in full. Plus, you get two ESPN commercials featuring the rivalry. Also, you get this year's game as soon as it's available. The individual games are available for $1.99 apiece. (HT: MA)

* Finally, our pal Peter Bean over at Burnt Orange Nation devotes his entire "Under the Hood" post to the Michigan-Ohio State game. It's one stop shopping for all the stats of the two teams this season.

Is it a suprise that a longhorns site would be rooting for you. We knocked them out of the national championship race.

We aren't obligated to root for Ohio St. anymore becuase we are out of the hunt. So...we aren't.

Great team. Horrid fans. I have the scar to prove it.

I think Coach of the Year comes down to Carr and Schiano. It's hard to deny what he's done at Rutgers this year - I mean they were bottom feeders just last year, and now may crack the BCS or even the championship. If they win out in the Big East he'd be my pick, even if Michigan wins it all. If they fold then Carr would probably be my choice

I tried the Colley Matrix link. If I removed USC beating Arkansas and added Arkansas beating Michigan, Michigan (11-1 now) is still ranked #1 and the Hogs (undefeated with a win over #1) would only be #2. If instead of beating Michigan, I put in that Arkansas is undefeated but beat Ohio State then the Hogs are behind Michigan and Rutgers. This is somewhat unbelievable.

I think most Tex-Exes (myself included) really respect Michigan as a university--both academically and athletically. Texas calls itself the Harvard of the South and Michigan calls itself the Harvard of the West.

So its just it seems logical for the Longhorn Nation to root for U-M.

If you listened to the Herd on ESPN radio today, they compared the schools academically. And the conclusion was that U-M was superior to tOSU.

Of course, Buckeye on-the-air-callers let the show know the conclusion was wrong.

Thanks for the heads up on iTunes season pass. Those commercials are two of my all time favorites.

Wouldn't it be great if ESPN put more games than just those 4 up on iTunes? I'd pay 2 bucks for an old Michigan game from the pre-VCR era in a heartbeat.

I am in the process of downloading the 1973 game, which is one of the few I do not have in my DVD collection. I hope they have the "banner" incident included.

The preview (available via itunes) is great with 1970's vintage buckeye cheerleaders with the wolverines warming up in the background.

If anyone has the 2000 game on VHS or DVD I would love to hear from you.

Thanks for the iTunes tip and thanks for an excellent blog. I visit every day, even though I'm a buckeye. I happen to be one who is sorry for any crap you've had to take in Columbus. There's no excuse. Most of us have nothing but respect for this game and your program's history and success.
Here's to a much better time this year for you, so long as that doesn't involve a UM win.

Harvard of the South? hmm....

Would a Harvard grad be offended if you called Harvard, the "Texas of New England" more than a Texas grad would be flattered if you called Texas the "Harvard of the South"?

actually if you went to Harvard, you NEVER name it...
you simply "went to school in Boston"

How can anyone claim Lloyd has "silenced his critics" with the 2 biggest games of his career coming down the pipe?

IF he loses to OSU and proceeds to lose in the Rose Bowl, (just like in 2003), then it's another 11-2 season with no National or Big Ten title. How does that make Lloyd the best coach in the country?

Who's he beat this year? An overrated Notre Dame and a mediocre Wisconsin team. Coach of the year? Sure, if he wins 2 more.

I've always heard that Duke and Vandy were the "Harvards of the South," and Rice was the "Princeton of the South," but they're really just Duke, Vandy and Rice. They stand up pretty well on their own.

Texas is a fine school, but...
