Michigan-Ohio State Week at the MZone

I don't know how Wolverine or Buck fans are going to get anything done this week with the epic M-OSU showdown we only dared dream about when the season started mere days away. It doesn't get any better than this if you're a Michigan or Ohio State supporter!

Here at the MZone, this week will be primarily, if not totally, focused on The Game, including our usual brand of ribbing our neighbors to the south. And we might have more than usual depending on how well we can disguise what we're really doing at work so scroll down to see what we have in store each day.

Also, be sure to check the site for details about our College Football America show this week on NowInLA which will also be a Michigan-Ohio State bonanza. Should know later today when we're doing that.

Thanks for reading, but more importantly...

Go Blue!

This is it, man, this is it! It doesn't get any better.

I'm going to stay home from work Friday to get mentally prepared for the game. You can't let it suddenly happen, you have to think about it first.

Brickeye said...

Hey, I made a hype video for those who want to see it. As if this game needs anymore hype right lol. Its basically a timeline from some key moments throughout the last oh 30 or so years in THE GAME. I tried to keep this fair as possible. Im a Buckeye fan so if it seems to sway anywhere toward that, im sorry in advance.

Brickeye said...

Oh I forgot to mention that this is my way of contributing something positive to this week of weeks. Its easy to say Fuck Michigan. I decided to give something different so everyone can enjoy it.

I'm a Michigan fan, have been since I could talk, and my Step-Dad is for Ohio. So I bought a Michigan shot glass. I'll buy him an Ohio one, too. Even though we rib each other, it doesn't ever get too mean. I just know Michigan will win this year since I got a job here!! M Go Blue!!!!

Every time I think about saturday I feel like I'm going to puke from joy! After living in Michigan for my whole life and going to UM, I moved to Philly a year ago and the people here just don't get that this is the biggest game ever. I might fly home this weekend if I can find a cheap flight so I can be with people who understand how important this is!

T.Branch said...

Brickeye... Nice video... I didn't think it was too biased.
I hope that everyone keeps in mind that this game is going to garner a huge national spotlight. Hopefully there won't be any big incidents at 'the shoe' for the media to focus on. We wouldn't want a game that turns the greatest rivalry in collecge football into a posterchild for what's wrong with college football. The BSC will likely be a villan after it's all over no matter who wins and who is selected to play in the championship game. The contest already has that going against it. No matter how good the game is, who wins, how close or lopsided the score... Controversy will be a given. Please keep it clean in Ohio! Please.

"Michigan-Ohio State Week at the MZone"? Don't sell yourself short Yost. Almost every day on this blog is Ohio State-M*chigan. This is one of my top 3 blogs for Ohio State information.

I cannot wait for this week personally. And I hope, along with 99% of the fanbase for both teams, that UM fans coming down for the game are treated with some respect. Cheering for Ohio State doesn't mean you terrorize the opponent. Well, unless its on the field.

Nice job on the video brickeye.

Wolverines. You know what is at stake this Saturday in Columbus. I expect you not to be intimidated by tosu & to trust in your Coaches. I hope for a resounding win.

Thank God the pre-season is over.

To all Buckeye and Wolverine fans - enjoy the week. It doesn't get any better than this. Congratulations to both teams on a great season - this is well-earned.

Now what if...
USC loses to Cal
Notre Dames loses to USC
Arkansas loses to LSU
Florida loses to Arkansas?

If this falls out, a rematch in Glendale would be almost guaranteed.

Given the events of this weekend, this is not too far-fetched; and I'm not even going to consider the possibility of a one-loss West Virginia or an undefeated Rutgers leapfrogging a one-loss Michigan or Ohio State.

Brickeye - Nice job on the video. Not biased at all. I could watch an hour of highlights like that.

rukrusher said...

Just a quick survey, god forbid UM loses to OSU, how close do you think it has to be to get a rematch in Glendale?

The King said...

Beast, you must not have looked at the new BCS standings. Rutgers is #2 in the computers. If they beat a Top Ten Wva team, and everything else you said happens, Rutgers is going to play for the National Title game no matter how close our game with OSU is.

That said, there's no way Rutgers is beating Wva.

Anonymous said...

In view of both teams' spotless records and the added impetus of the BCS, the stakes for this one are higher than any in the long, storied history of The Game. The winner goes to the NC, while the loser will likely wait in limbo for at least a week while their fate is determined by games involving lesser teams. It's almost a shame that one of these teams has to lose because IMHO, regardless of the outcome, they are the two best teams in college football this year.

If UM loses and ND ends up in the NC despite being shellacked by UM in South Bend, there is no justice in this world.

And you can't tell me either of these teams wouldn't take Rutgers or WVa to the woodshed in a playoff.

This is from a Buckeye fan who grew up almost literally in the shadow of the 'Shoe during The Ten Year War.

Great blog, btw.

What the heck is a cornhole tournament (scan down to Wednesday @ 7:30) ????

You all must really want to beat us...

David said...

I'm conflicted about the idea of a rematch. On the one hand, these are the two best teams and deserve to play for the title. On the other, a rematch would render this game meaningless.

Still, there could be no greater season in Michigan history than going 13-0 and beating OSU twice to win the title (likewise for OSU, but let's not think about that).

I am a Buckeye stuck in Texas who had the misfortune to have lived in Ann Arbor for 8 long miserable years in the 70's. There is nothing quite so fullfilling than to give you Blue fans a good old fashioned ass whooping. When Lou Holtz says that Michigsn can beat Ohio State, I know how horrible it will be on Saturday. This Michigan team being #2 is a friggiing joke! I have been watching Ohio State football for the last 50 years ( thats right, my Dad took me to see my first game when I was 4 and Hopalong Cassidy was playing! My freshman year saw the start of the Bo Woody wars and Woodys son, Steve ) now Judge Hayes) lived down the hall from me! If I die Sunday and the Buckeyes win Saturday, it will have been a great life! But Sunday morning when I wake up, the score will have been Ohio State 63 Michigan 0 and we will not care who we play for the National Championship in January 2007 cause Michigan will be playing in the weed eater bowl if they are lucky! Did I mention that I was at the Rose Bowl when Rex Kern and company lost to Stanford? Ouch!

GO BUCKS BEAT BLUE....you will note that I refrained from saying anything crass like muck fichigan!

Interesting thoughts but the BCS year will find a way to screw things up... How ironic, the system implemented to curb the controversy actually causes more grief!

I'd love to be optimistic about things but looking at the BCS top ten right now:

1. How the heck is ND rated that high? I know that's bad for a UM fan to say -- as we want all our defeated teams to do as well for the strength of schedule factor. But seriously, outside of Weis' Mack Brown-esqe whining, how did ND get to be that high? Where is ND’s big road win... check that... where is a ND signature win – period??? ND is undoubtedly the most overrated team in football and it could be very possible that Buckstache and ND play for all the marbles even though Michigan thrashed ND in their house!!!

2. Not looking ahead to the SEC championship game, but as of this week, and since USC is ahead of Florida, then Arkansas -- undefeated in the ahem, toughest conference in the land should be higher up.

3. How the heck does WV get all that love... right now, WVU is just the 3rd best team in their conference (UL beats WVU -> Rutgers beats UL)?!?!?!

Personally, I'm hoping for a USC/U of M matchup... too bad the Rose Bowl for the crystal ball this year! Anyone who has ever been to the Rose Bowl knows how incredible the whole experience is!!!

The DEAN OF STUDENTS sent an e-mail to everyone with some tips for those traveling to Columbus. How bad are things when the Dean of Students has to tell you not to cross the path of opposing fans?

Here are the highlights of a list they provided:

--Try carpooling to the game; if possible, drive a car with non-
Michigan license plates.
--Keep your Michigan gear to a minimum, or wait until you are inside the stadium to display it.
--Stay with a group.
--If verbally harrassed by opposing fans, don't take the bait.
--Avoid High Street in Columbus.

Any OSU fan who insists that things are pound-for-pound just as bad at Michigan can suck my ass.

Touche, King.

I guess I just don't want to wrap my brain around the concept of Rutgers being considered "better" than Ohio St. or Michigan this year. Dogs and cats living together!!

But to accomodate your point:
AND West Virginia beats Rutgers...

beast in 'bama said...

If the computers have Rutgers ranked #2, ahead of OHIO STATE, then I think it's time to get rid of the computers in this process and bring in the Masters Coaches Survey.

In case you haven't heard of it, this is a panel of former coaches, including Pat Dye, Lavell Edwards, Vince Dooley, Gene Stallings, and Bo Schembechler (among others), who are studying games on Monday and Tuesday and then meeting each Wednesday to form their own poll.

Now between them, these gentlemen have won a fair number of football games. I believe it would be safe to say that they have forgotten more about football than anyone else will ever know. Their expertise is an element that is currently lacking in the process.

AMAIZING hype video. Thanks! I've got goosebumps.

I don't know how I will get thru this week!

Here is a chilling thought tho---
OSU vs. ND in a BCS title game
I think I would poke my eyes out.

As a Buckeye living in Michigan, I can honestly say (and I know that part, alone, is hard for any M fans to believe) that I have never had more cordial conversation with my M friends about "the game" than I have had this year. Maybe we should all just join hands and yell, "Notre Dame sucks!"

Ohio Chihuahua Earns Badge As K-9 Officer

Unusual K-9
AP-S (AP-S), World

Police in Cleveland have a new weapon in the war on drugs and a new K-9 officer who is small in size, but not in talent.

Midge is an 8-pound Chihuahua-rat terrier mix and not the kind of K-9 officer you might imagine.

She started training in February and this week she passed her state certified drug test in Ohio.

Midge passed all five components of her test, finding marijuana hidden in a variety of locations, the Cleveland Plain Dealer reported.

"She finds marijuana. We use her nose; she excludes all other odors," said Geauga County Sheriff Dan McClelland. "You name it, she excludes it. She looks for one specific scent, and that scent is marijuana."

McClelland said he believes Midge may be the smallest police dog in the country. He said her size allows her to slip into tiny spaces.

McClelland said Midge will be taking more drug classes to teach her how to sniff out other drugs.

Midge has appeared on numerous national television shows including the "Rachael Ray Show" and stories on CNN, MSNBC and other networks, the Plain Dealer reported.

Tosu has solidified its #1 ranking by defeating a Texas team that recently gave up 45 points to an unranked KSU, and beating 10 other teams that all have at least FOUR losses:

N. Illinois (5-5)
Texas (9-2)
Cinci (5-5)
Penn St (7-4)
Iowa (6-5)
BG (4-6)
MSU (4-7)
Indiana (5-6)
Minnesota (5-6)
Illinois (2-9)
NW (3-8)

The totals - 48 wins, 50 losses. Of course Tosu looks like an unstoppable machine.

Michigan, of course, has feasted on most of the Big-10 patsies, but also has quality wins over ND (9-1) and Wisconsin (10-1), handing those teams their only losses. Wisconsin has the #7 defense in the country, the #5 rusher, and the #3 pass defense. Both teams are in the BCS top-10, with ND still in contention for the national championship if they win out.

Michigan will be the first elite team that Tosu has played this year. Why is this lost in the excessive analysis of this match up?

I have been a Michigan fan since I was young. Followed the team for years and was able to go to the 100 game vs OSU. So now I am driving 13+ hours to get to columbus ohio for this game. Can people give me some information on where to tailgate, bringing an rv hopefully, where best place to watch game, no tickets, adn anything else I should know. My buddy who is from ohio was supposed to come but his girl wont let him. Any information is greatly appreciated. GO BLUE

Unger Kelt,
I'm a Buckeye fan and you make some excellent observations. I'm just not sure of your point. Should Ohio State not be ranked #1? Should Michigan be ranked #1? If this is your point, then don't worry about it, luckily we have a game coming up which will decide who is #1.
Or do you feel Michigan is not getting enough repect in the excessive analysis? If so, I disagree. Michigan is getting much deserved respect in the media.
If I were king of the polls, I would gladly make Michigan #1 and Ohio State #2, as long as we can play for the right to be #1. You have that right, be happy, stop knocking down Ohio State and embrace the fact that this game WILL determine who is the National Champion.
I respect Michigan and want to see a hard fought game. Long live the rivalry!

Go Bucks!

BOB UFER: 1973

"That's all there is, there isn't anymore ... We can only say as the late and great Fielding H. Yost would have said, it's been a great big Meeeechigan football year. But it can all be summed up as one remembers the quote over there in Bo's office and it's in the Michigan lockerrooms over there in Southberry field .. and it states very simply:

What the Mind can Conceive and Believe, the Mind can Achieve. And those who stay will be Champions!"

Yes, the questions will be answered on Saturday. Until then, it is going to be an overindulgence of analysis and speculation.

My post was basically a response to a barrage of glowing analysis, by fans and journalists alike, about Tosu's amazing offense and stifling defense. They have looked great, no doubt, but against a schedule that is below .500.

I live in Ohio - the Tosu cult here is absolutely convinced they have the greatest team of all time and that they are going to roll over Michigan like they did Northwestern last week.

Maybe they will - but if you want to gush about what a juggernaut that Tosu has been, you also have to keep in mind that 8 out of 11 teams that they've trounced thus far are not even bowl eligible at this moment. Not exactly a monstrous strength of schedule – the game may be much more winnable for Michigan than everyone thinks.

Brad said...

Although i'm a bucks fan, I figured you guys might enjoy my reasons why Ohio State vs. Michigan is the best in the world.

Good luck to everyone this weekend!

Anonymous said...

Ungar Kelt: I don't know where you're getting your information from, but none of my Buckeye fan friends I've talked to think we're going to roll on M*chigan like we rolled Northwestern. Most people think it'll be a close game.

And everyone who thought Wisconsin would be 10-1 raise their hands. Everyone who thinks Wisconsin would beat Ohio State this year raise a hand too. Now everyone who just raised their hand who is from Madison go ahead and put yours down... thought so. We can only play our schedule, same as you. I appreciate you trying to play a version of the "no respect" card, but I'm not buying it. Sorry.

Finally, for the guy who wanted to know what cornhole is: Its this. Its been covered on Deadspin, the Today Show and God only knows where else. The joke has been done, you're late to the party on that one. And for all your wolverines chancing the tailgating areas, its the game everyone is playing with the beanbags and the boards.

I cannot take a poll seriously in which some voting members keep Louisville ahead of Rutgers after they lost to RU.

My condolences on the passing of Coach Schembechler. I hope OSU honors him this Saturday. He helped make the rivalry what it is today. May he rest in peace with Woody.
