This Doesn't Pass The Smell Test

That's what I have to say after I read about the "tragic news" so many readers sent us regarding the guy behind the LSUoverUSC "blog."

To recap...

Remember the billboard some LSU jokers actually raised money for in order it up outside the USC campus to proclaim SC didn't win a share of the 2004 National Title? Well, this LSUoverUSC "blog" came into existence around the time of this "campaign" with its sole mission (and only posts) being about how USC didn't win anything in 2003 and LSU was the only champ that year.

Ok, fine. Everybody is entitled to their opinion. But the asshole behind the site set out to "prove" his opinion by spamming ever other blog and sports site on the Internet. Folks, I kid you not when I say there were multiple times when Benny and I would delete 10 "comments" a day from this jerk linking back to his "blog."

Well, earlier this week, MZone readers alerted us to a post on LSUoverUSC in which the person behind it identified himself as "Fraser Babineaux" and claimed that he was "obsessed" with his blog and posting on forums due to OCD. He claimed his therapist told him, in order to recover, he had to stop and thus, he was shutting down the site.

Now, I admit, I actually felt bad for the guy. Then, two days later, another post appeared on the site under the title "tragic news":

"I am going to try this and hope it works. My best friend was Fraser. Yesterday, he was found dead in his apartment. He was a troubled guy over the last six months. I knew alot was wrong. He put besides him a note for me and in that note he gave me the password hear and asked that I post saying that he always believed in his cause and he couldnt live on with out it.

I hope he can find the peace he never could find here in this world now."

That's when I lost any and all sympathy for "Fraser." Because, call me a heartless prick but I don't believe this for a second. Hey, if I'm wrong, I'll be the first to put up a post apologizing. However, I don't think I'll need to. Because this screams hoax to me.

And that's even more fucked up than his "cause."

UPDATE: Since posting this last night, the LSUoverUSC site has been "updated" yet again -- twice. First, "Fraser's" good buddy put up a copy of his "dead pal's" 10 page manifesto detailing the "proof" of his "argument" for the site (the same one that was spammed all over the Internet by this asshole). This latest one was put up "in memory of my friend." Riiiiight. I'm sure it had nothing to do with the fact that daily visits to his site went from "Fraser" and his imaginary friend to over a thousand a day this week since Fraser's "final post" then the "tragic news" that followed.

In addition, Mr. Good Buddy also put up "funeral arrangements" for the "deceased." However, as one of our readers already pointed out, a quick Google search makes the whole thing smell like a bigger pile of bullshit.

Gee, amazing how this site is now updated more since Fraser "died." This guy is the Tupac of bloggers.

I think Mike Valenti should say the eulogy at the funeral:

"USC choked on applesauce! Don't get it twisted! Shut up, I'm not finish!"

I'm pretty sure this is true. One of the LSU forums had a thread about this and a bunch of the long time posters there had the funeral arrangements. It was in the New Orleans paper they said.

i thought it was a joke at frist too, but there's enough people i believe who seem to think this is true.

True or not, this is pretty sad anyway you look at it.

Completely a hoax.

1. His name brings nothing but references to his "story" on the blog. If it was in the paper, it would show up on a search.

2. John Biello also shows in limited places on internet searches. None of them are even close to being a Rev. I'd assume that an ordained person would show up SOMEWHERE even if he did not have a congregation.

3. Labson Funeral Home also shows up no where. There should at least be a listing with a phone number in yahoo. In this day and age, it's hard to believe that they wouldn't have a crappy website at the least.

4. I live in Dallas. Brett Walnerk is either does not exist or is unlisted in the phone book. (Pattern?)

5. The only St. Charles cemetary in LA is in Lulling. There is no Howard street, much less a 1000 Howard street, in Lulling. Texas has no listing of a St. Charles cemetary anywhere. The only LA cemetary located at 1000 Howard is Archdiocesan Cemeteries in New Orleans.

Other than that...it seems to check out...

Any law students with free Westlaw or Lexis able to do a search on the name and see what checks out? I'm genuinely curious. Switchboard.com shows three guys named Fraser Babineaux, the youngest one age 32. (Location not given on Switchboard -- note that the obit on the site lists his age as 28.) Googling the name only gives you references to blog postings where he unveiled his true identity.

I vote not legit, because in addition to everything else not adding up, there's this: "He put besides him a note for me and in that note he gave me the password hear and asked that I post saying that he always believed in his cause and he couldnt live on with out it."

Just too ridiculous to believe.

Lastly, if it is true, someone should put up a pro-USC billboard close to the cemetery.

I'm sure that the real story is that he took a pain killer that reacted with one of his supplements. At least that's what his publicist will say.

I bet the whole thing was made up from the beginning...If the stuff boswell found is true, even more fuel to the fire.

Look at the name, Fraser Babineaux, typical French queer (oops I mean quarter name).

Who the hell would post their picture when they looked like that? Why wouldn't you post a pic of yourself in the douchebaggy colors of Purple and Yellow? Or some other regalia of the LSU Tigggrrrs

Its probably some 50 yr old loser who never went to LSU....but thinks he owns the fucking school....He's probably sitting in his mom's basement eating cherios in his tighty whities laughing at the ruckus he caused. The pic was something he probably found trolling myspace looking for highschool chicks to pretend hit on.

I thought the catholic church would not allow you to be buried on consecrated ground if you committed suicide? St. Charles Cemetary in NOLA sounds catholic (if it exists).

See if you can locate Amelia Earhart and Jimmy Hoffa while you're at it. Very thorough.

Oh, and on a personal note, see if you can locate the Longhorn's tight ends. They've been missing since VY left. I have a feeling we'll need 'em against OU next week.

The "death" of this guy better stop the madness soon. He's making the other 99.9% of LSU fans look bad. My sympathies if it is true, but I heartfully believe it is not.

BTW....The name Fraser Babineaux and the geeky picture just seem way to stereotypical for this.

I googled some of it and found some of the info. Like the cemetery is here http://www.google.com/maps?hl=en&hs=J2K&lr=&safe=off&client=firefox-a&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&q=cemetery&near=New+Orleans,+LA,+USA&radius=0.0&latlng=29954444,-90075000,17472240397599326427&sa=X&oi=local&ct=result&cd=2 it exists.

Maybe it's true, maybe it's not. I don't care as long as he goes away for good.

If this is fake; i wont make any judgments....

How is this any different from when Pete Carroll faked the suicide of Lendale Coke White by jumping off the building to scare the reporters and even his own players?

Jason said...

This is a complete fake. Check this out...

Studio8 was/is a group of LSU students that did comedy through song parodies and such. The website that our "dead" friend uses has his picture. Check it out...

Same picture as "LSUoverUSC" uses.

Jason nailed it. Game over.

Here's how I know this is 100% fake:

Anon 10:01.

Trust me when I say this is this dickwad. We're talking about some sick fuck faking his death for god-knows-what-reason...and what does he do? Comes on to leave a comment saying he "won't pass judgement" then rips on USC.

This is the same sort of shit that we used to get on the site here once we started deleted ALL of his spam bullshit. He'd stop leaving the link then say he say something on "That LSU blog." We'd erase those but they'd still pop up.

This is him, folks. What do you want to be his "friend" in a few days says he's going to "carry on" Fraser's work?

LSUoverUSC said...

Yes it was a fake. Could no one else see how childish and disgusting that was? My site was hacked, and here you guys are posturing as if I would have planned to fake my suicide? I may be demented because I proclaim the truth about the 2003 season 3 years later, but I am not such a basketcase as to make up such stories of perversion.

I am a journalism grad and currently pursuing a degree in law. When I smell BS...I look into it :)

When you think about it, as sick as it is, it's also genious. I guarentee that word of mouth made his site go 100x over the normal hits. People will linger to spread their hate on his stupidity and keep coming back to join in/defend their comments.

And for honest bloggers, such as myself, that pisses me off. We're just trying to get validation that people are actually reading our crappy meanderings. While we like to have fun, we take it seriously.

He loses at life.

This is actually kind of brilliant.

what is the truth? that there is a split title? who gives a shit, lsu can claim a national championshop and sc can claim one, big fucking deal....hell a year later even auburn won one, the peoples national champion....

I will bring mulder and scully over and we will get to the bottom of this asap.

Dont forget, some idiots from Texass chipped in for the cost of that billboard too, hahaha
