Written before the UT-OSU game, the piece was about Ohio State's all-everything QB Troy Smith and how he could become the Heisman front-runner with a big game against the Longhorns (missioned accomplished).
Reading it, I thought Sharp might get through the entire piece without even mentioning Michigan.
Wrong.
The last paragraph, which really has nothing to do with the rest of the story, reads, "Michigan is counting the days until he leaves Columbus. Smith is the single biggest reason why Lloyd Carr has lost his last two games against the Buckeyes -- and likely looking at a third straight setback come November."
Yep, he couldn't resist at least one dig. Thus...

i've been paying attention as well. strangely enough, i've noticed this:
Yost's 'negative' lean towards this years UM team is very similar
Yost neg: 3

hmmm.....
first, i don't recall it raining last year during the UT-Tosu game. why does he say it was a "moist" evening in the introductory paragraph? other than a lame attempt to create some unecessary (and incorrect) imagery, the phrase serves no purpose. that may seem nit picky, but i don't like writers who make stuff up (even if it's not essential to the story). point is (again), he's a bad writer.
on top of that,he's got a real bias against michiga. he slams Lloyd w/ the "waiting for Troy to leave" comment. later, in his picks for saturday games ("point of stupidity"??), he pisses on our inability to cover the spread (along w/ moosu). not arguing either is wrong. as screwa2 aptly points out, many michigan fans have raised the second point. and if we don't beat ND, more people are going to jump on the band wagon (Cowherd was all over Carr yesterday, but that's become so routine, i almost don't notice).
however, there's a venom to Sharp's comments you don't see included in the other poorly written jokes he makes about the other teams. if you just read on in this column, the cracks on MooSU, PSU, the Cal- Minn games are all tamer, less posionous.
The Amazon reviewsfor his classic literary debut Razor Sharp are interesting: "Drew Sharp proves all the critics wrong with this book and shows that people with disability can actually put words together on a page..."
anon,
great catch. the rest of the quote in the online review goes on to say:
"....Albeit, the words barely form a coherent thought at any time in this book, and most of this drivel is not even worthy of toilet paper for even the most discriminating u of m trailer park fan. Even thinking about how this book was published makes my head spin"
the other reviews also make such statements as:
"My 2 year old is a better writer";
"Barely worth a glance on the shelf";
"You couldn't pay me to read this 'book'";
and personal favorite:
"This guy is a hack".
almost makes me want to read it to see if it's as bad as his column...
Screw,
I'm not talking about negative leans, I'm talking about the guy never saying anything positive about UM. Ever. Since I can remember. I
Furthermore, my negative "leans" which you refer to are opinions based on what I've seen on the field. I don't think any Michigan fan could have watched the first two games and said there is nothing wrong.
What you term negative, I call skepticism at this point.
Amazon reviewer Stanley Martin appears to be a skeptic:
"On the surface, publishing a compilation of articles from one of Earth's most untalented journalists probably seemed like a good idea. This culmination of decades of wasted ink and mindless opinions would certainly have many uses. ... Even the devil will have no idea what to do with Drew Sharp's soul once the Detroit News [sic] gets a clue and fires this embarrassment." (emphasis added)
All who haven't read the Amazon reviews of Razor Sharp, what ARE you waiting for? Great stuff.
NOTHING, I repeat NOTHING gets a one-star review at Amazon. People want to defend and rationalize their purchases, right? Well, think again, as Drew Sharp has set the bar lower than ever before. Not a single positive review, and one that even starts with "This book makes baby Jesus cry."
Current sales rank: #2,046,727. But you'd better hurry - there's only one copy left!
