On one level, it's a lateral move. He's going from the 'Canes, winner of 5 National Titles since 1983, to a team that won the NJCAA National Title in 2004, finished #3 last year and is the pre-season #1 going into 2006.
But that's where the similarities end.
While Miami's home field is the fabled Orange Bowl, the PRCC Wildcats play at Dobie Holden Stadium, described on the school's website this way:
"Dobie Holden Stadium, constructed in 1966, seats 4,000 fans on the home side and 1,000 fans on the visitors side, and has seen some of the finest community college football action in the state. The facility features chair back seating in the reserved and features press facilities on the home side. The concrete stadium has dressing areas under the home side and features refreshment areas under both sides. The stadium is named for coaching legend, Thomas Dobie Holden (1948-1966), who is credited with 8 state championships and one national championship during his tenure. The north end of the field is reserved for tailgating and alumni functions. Visitor parking is located on the north and east sides of the stadium, while the home side utilizes the east and south sides of the stadium. The stadium is also home to Poplarville High School's Hornets. (Poplarville High School was once a part of Pearl River College.)"
Ok, so maybe it's not that different. I mean, unless Miami is playing one of it's big rivals, attendance at the Orange Bowl is usually around 4 or 5K as well. And we hear they have killer refreshments, too.
P.S. I swear we didn't Photoshop the fans into the Orange Bowl.
