Good Luck, Brian!

Ok, I admit it -- I'm green with envy. No, not MSU green but a good old fashioned jealous shade. Why? Just found out that Brian over at MGoBlog won a seat into the $10,000 main event at the World Series of Poker in Las Vegas at the end of this month. He got there by turning a $55 entry in a step tournament on Party Poker into the coveted spot.

Well done!

Like a lot of folks, I'm hooked on televised poker. Hell, it's more exciting that most sporting events on TV (except for that celebrity crap on Bravo. That is god-awful poker. I'd rather sandpaper my balls than watch Kathy Griffin go allin, over-the-top of some former SAVED BY THE BELL cast member with her 7-4 offsuit after a flop of A-Q-4).

I think one of the main reasons I enjoy watching poker is that, even at its biggest event like the WSOP, the average fan has a shot to be there. To compete with the best. I mean, I love Michigan football but I'll never run out of that tunnel to play in the Big House. You, our loyal MZone reader, may love golf but, unless Vijay Singh is said loyal reader checking out this blog right now, you're not going to get a chance to tee off with Tiger at The Masters.

But poker is different.

Brian will be sitting at the same table with the best of the best. He starts off on equal footing with guys who do this for a living. He can go heads-up with Phil Ivey...and potentially win.

So good luck, Bri. Go get 'em. I'll be pulling for you here.

P.S. Oh, and if you do find yourself heads-up with Phil Ivey, I really hope you have the nuts, especially if you're trying to read him after the flop.

As someone who has lost thousands of dollars playing poker over the years I wish him all the luck I never had.

i like poker as much as the next....um...person, but what angers most of us is re-runs and constant showing of a tournament we already know the winner of. It isn't that poker and the WSP isn't a great competition, (there, competition, not sport. Is that too hard of a word to think of?) it is that it is whored out too many times.

Good luck Brian. Make sure to "accidentally" grab Jennifer Tilly's tits for me.
