Wake Up The Echoes (Better yet, just wake me up when it's over)

According to espn.com, Notre Dame and Nevada are close to finalizing an agreement to meet in 2009. Unfortunately, this isn't in basketball, where the Wolf Pack have had success recently, making the last three NCAA tournaments (even beating Sparty in 2004). This is football, where Rockne, the Four Horsmen, and Montana made Notre Dame football something special. Is this really the kind of matchup the NCAA had in mind when it allowed the season to go to 12 games? Yeah, I know, both teams will have a nice extra payday.

Nevada is getting the game in South Bend because they were willing to rearrange their schedule in 2004 so that Notre Dame could move their game against BYU to the start of the season so they wouldn't have to open against Michigan. Of course that only worked out half well for the Irish; and completely badly for the Wolverines. So, thanks Nevada. I hope your trip to South Bend is as painful as the last three trips Michigan's made down there.
