- At least the hoops team kicked Coppin State's ass last night.
- I'm pretty confident we'll win our next game.
- I now have a lot more free time on January 2nd that I had slotted for watching the bowls.
- It's OK. We're a softball school now.

There's always next year
Here are the ways I'm rationalizing Michigan's horrible season and Alamo Bowl loss. Feel free to add your own.

* Other than Avant, the players who will not return do not exactly remind one of the '79 Steelers: Henige, Lentz, Massaquoi, Mason, P. Massey (he was still on the team?!), Stenavich, Watson, and Woods.
If that doesn't help, how about this:
* The last time we lost three Big Ten games and our bowl (1996), we hired a new D-Coordinator* and won the national championship the next season.
(* Hermann's first game as DC was the '97 Outback Bowl)
We had no choice but to hire Hermann because Mattison had left for Notre Dame (hilarious to see him pass up a championship caliber year for Bob Davie's sweaty embrace, BTW). Have you seen any indication yet that Herrmann will go?

Not yet. And I've been looking. If Lloyd doesn't see the problem with the D, well, then it's worse than I thought.
